I've been to Maui, Lanai, Big Island and Oahu. Maui and Oahu were my favorites. If I had to pick just one to return to see, I'd re-visit Oahu. Loved the beaches, the shopping, Ihilani Spa, Roy's, Diamond Head and the North Shore. Maui was fun for beaches, shopping and dining, too, plus it has a nifty volcanic overlook at Haleakala. If you've got an active volcano "itch" that needs scratching, hop over to the Big Island, but there's not much else to recommend the place.

Based on my personal likes/dislikes only:
1. Big Island (resorts)
2. Kauai (beauty)
3. Oahu (little bit of everything)
4. Molokai (gorgeous but bad service)
5. Lanai (was a little disappointed with MB resort Lodge was great)
6. Maui (too crowded)

It definately depends on what you enjoy doing. Our family of 4 started in Maui - 6 days. We loved all the activity in Lahaina, the upcountry and Haleakala was absolutely gorgeous. Lots to do if your adventurous or if you enjoy beaching-it.
Then to BI for 4 days. Kids loved Volcanoes Nat'l Park, but it's a long ride from the west side of the island and back. The rainforest were beautiful. We spent a lot of time hiking to see the falls etc. Enjoyed the black sand beaches along the south shores.
Finally to Kaui. My personal favorite. Loved the Na-pali coast and the rugged beauty of this island. The hyatt had great pools and Poipu beach just a short car ride away.
Sorry cannot rate Oahu. Would love to go there but the kids were pooped after 3 islands in 2 weeks. Gotta go back!
