Rainbow Room

I've done a search and figured out that the Rainbow Room is closed, now I am just wondering if anyone knows why? Is it a temporary thing or is it permanent? Didn't they just renovate a couple of years ago? Thanks for any information!

The Rainbow Room is now strictly forprivate parties. They no longer have a restaurant for people off the street, so to speak.

I was there the first weekend in December. My wife and i went up to have a drink at the bar and eventually ate dinner. I had never been there before. We ate in the Rainbow Room Grille. It overlooked the Empire State Building. Awesome view. I am not sure if this part has closed also.

I think the Cipriani family--or some foreign billionaires took it over, and New Yorkers are furious that this landmark-icon-symbol of NYC is now off limits. My guess is that it will return eventually, with much fanfare, never to be allowed again to be taken over for corporate reasons. It's as if someone closed the observation decks to the Empire State Building or the skating rink at Rockefeller Center, or bought up Tavern on the Green. Some places belong to the myth of NY; this is one.

Considering the "priciness" of The Rainbow Room, I think that most New Yorkers (like me) really don't give a damn! I haven't found that many New Yorkers up in arms. (Sorry, Iola!)

Yes, the Cipriani family took over the Rainbow Room. However, part of their agreement was that it should still be open on weekends. If it's not it's because they're remodeling or something. Considering that the Cipriani family will probably make lackluster food a thing of the past at the RR, it is a welcome change, in my opinion. It is sad, though, that it's not open all the time.
