Nothin like a freshly graded road to Polihale. See you haven't left and you already have to go back. Suked right back in.

Why can I envision the real icee sitting with the craft ladies making you an Easter lei and head wreath, while you down maitais at da pool!

Carry on!

Shoot! And I wanted to go hike Polihale in May.

Who's the good car rental place Kal,(besides Costco - we're not members)?

I don't suppose there is really ANY car that would make that trip comfortably do-able?

OSB...Alohaaaaaa
The last few trips over we've had very good luck with Priceline and Hotwire.

Sometimes we get the rental agencies located about a mile off airport, National and Thrifty, but last year both agencies were on site, Lihue Shuffleish.
I made the mistake of upgrading to the Mustang for about $10/day more. ooops!

You can make it to Polihale probably in any car BUT the Mustang. It was teeth filling jarring it was so bad.

We've had full and mid sized cars for anywhere from $17 to $22 a day thru P'line.
Since we stay there usually over 17 days we split it up due to CredCard covg and auto insurance co limitations.
Feel free to send me a line so we don't hi-jack I'2s thread. O

Thanks Donita. Clayworks looks like my kind of place. Definitely going to check it out in...114 days. How was the weather up in the canyon? Did you get a view? Could you drive all the way to the end?

Now on to the important issue...What are you going to wear on Easter Sunday in that gorgeous church in Hanalei? If Martin and me are ever allowed to legally marry, that's where we're going to do it.

travel on...

OSB, check out the Costco website anyway. They haven't asked for our card yet and we have rented 3 times this trip. All with a costco coupon. I had to call Alamo today and see if we could extend the car we had (we thought we might have to cut the trip short) so we only have the car until Sunday. So....I had already checked on costco.com to see what the rates would be and the reservationist I got with Alamo matched the rates.

Flower girl? Flower girl? I don't want to be no stinkin flower girl! But, a woman at the Kauai Products Fair did give me a nice plumeria lei this afternoon. We got there right at closing and I was smellin so she gave me one.

'lani, the first time we ever made a trip to Hawaii we went to Maui. We went on a day trip over to the island of Lanai. The real icee sat in the hut with the children learing to weave the coconut thingies (he made a fish for his hat) while I lay myself in the nearby hammock and sucked down maitais!

This time I have perfected the POG Martini!! This cool place we are staying has martini glasses and a shaker perfect for a one drink size. Vodka and POG in a pretty glass. Don't get no bettah.

Still don't have an Easter frock. And, now we are thinking of church in Kapaa. It's a lot closer and we don't have to drive 30 miles at 6 a.m.!

Had a great lunch today at Polynesia Cafe in Kapaa. It's where The Shack used to be. Very good....blacked ahi taco salad and fish and chips. Super food, good service, great tables. Check out their tables at alohatables.com

Spent the afternoon at Anini Beach. The real icee is so patient. He harvested about 30 or 40 Kahelelani shells. Those buggahs are tiny.

Great day.

Moving to Pono Kai tomorrow. Mr. "just get a room, we won't be there except to sleep" has fallen in love with this resort. He has already said that next time...oh goodie, there's gonna be a next time....that we will stay here at The Waipouli Beach Resort.

I'm not sure if I've told y'all this before.......but.....just in case you forgot.........

I LOVE KAUAI!!

Gotta go warsh my butt, and face and feet....put on a clean pair of shorts and head out to dinner.

****smooches****

No...you 'Hate Kauai' - remember??

Explain this to me:
On the mainland, where alot of places are nearly or actually freezing on Easter, many people seek out the outdoors for a Sunrise Service on Easter.
...But the Queen is looking for an indoor service on the warm & beautiful (I mean ugly) isle with so many beaches to choose from...? Don't they have SS there? (Then you wouldn't need the frock - just a swim suit and maybe a pareo!

I will check out the costco deal. Membership may actually pay for itself, if required. TY!

FYI your link to alohatables didn't work for me.

I want that martini recipe (measurements please!).
Also, any secrets to snagging those shells?

I can't wait!!!!!!

OSB, the shells are tiny. Charlie just scooped them up and sifted thru them. Today we are taking tweezers with us to maybe pick them out.

The POG martini is easy.....pour however much vodka or rum you want over ice in the shaker. Then add however much POG juice you want and wala strain into a martini glass!!!!!

OSB, also check your entertainment book for the rental car rates. You may have to register your book, but they usually have pretty good rates also.

bbq, the canyon was not fogged in. You cannot drive to the end of the road. It really is closed off. People were parked and walking, but we weren't sure how far it was. If we had not been to that look out in the past, we probably would have gone, but since we had seen it from there, we did not.

Dinner last night was ono. Ate at The Barbeque Inn in Lihue. Charlie had ahi and I had ono. Plus coconut cream pie. And, corn chowder. Homemade bread....ONO!! They are closing on April 13th for kitchen renovations. There might have been 3 couples of vacationers there. The rest were locals.

Gotta run.........

Donita girl, you're my kind of wahine!!

When we were there last summer, my college roommate, who is a tad bit hard of hearing, thought the Spouting Horn was the Pouting Whore...and of course, that's what it has remained ever since!

Keep having fun....you are making me miss it oh sooo much! amp; We just returned from Mexico--not sure why we even bothered! Next time it's back to Hawaii!

It's been another lazy day. Had to pack up and move from The Waipouli Beach Resort to The Pono Kai. The Pono Kai is alot older, but still nice and big and clean. Somehow, we ended up with an oceanfront 2 br unit.

Had lunch at Scotty's. Pulled pork sandwich and a sandwich sampler which had open face sandwiches or bbq beef, bbq pork, bbq chicken and blt. It was good, but we needed the real icee's bbq sauce for it.

Not sure where dinner will be. Somewhere within walking distance. Maybe Norbertos, maybe Pizzetta's, maybe Olympic Cafe.

Bye........billyboy.........have a great vacation, and be sure to get your butt pinched in Italy!

Well, the Pouting Whore was just the beginning of the most excellent reunion of college roommates!! Nothing like a bit of hard hearing, arthritis and some good ol beach music to bring out the craziness!

We hear they're still talkin about us on Kauai...and in Nashville and San Diego and Wilmington....we made some good friends! And had a !#$! good time!!

Donita girl, keep it up!! I'm comin' to Atlanta and gonna give you a call!

Oh for sure daydreamin...you better give me a call....give me enough notice. I'm about 1 1/2 hours away from Atlanta.

I get together once or twice a year with 3 of my college buds and we have the most wonderful time.

We met 34 years ago and these are the most precious of friendships. I live in the Dalton, GA, area, one lives in Atlanta and the other 2 live in the Nashville area.

I remember when you were in Kauai for like 5 weeks last year. I was so green with envy.

Did I ever tell y'all how much I love Kauai???????

Donita
