If you're on the East Coast, how about Bermuda. It's gorgeous. Friendly people, beautiful beaches, great restaurants. If you golf, there are nice golf courses and most all of the hotels have tennis courts. You can rent a moped and cover the island in a day, and spend the other three on the beach.

Marty,
If beach is what you want, then there is nothing better than the Westin Casuarina, on 7 mile beach, Grand Cayman. Book the Sunday Brunch early. The beach, service and hotel rooms are great. Went for my honeymoon a few years ago and can't wait to get back
If you want something even more spectacular in the Mountains write back.

Top rated resort in North America the past two years is Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Cabo San Lucas. Stayed there last summer...unbelievably well run resort, extremely private, had our own pool (not just a 'plunge pool') and it's right on a 10 mile stretch of completely open white beach with hardly a soul on it. The place is expensive, though. 5 night packages started at around $4000 this time last year, but included some meals (wine list at the main restaurant has >$2000 bottles of wine, so the food is not mass prep buffet type slop). You can get rooms for less, of course without meals.
The main thing that impressed me was the 'serenity' factor. So beautiful and totally peaceful. Golf course right next door, plenty of water sports options, deep sea fishing, etc. Virtually never rains there. It's a Rosewood Resort (very high end chain).
