Questions on Detroit and Windsor??
On June 30, I will fly into Flint, Michigan and meet up with friends who have driven up there from Florida. (Airtran has a decent fare into Flint.) We want to go into Canada for a few days. I have about 4-5 days before flying back out of Flint. Where would you recommend we stay? Detroit? Windsor? Any recommendations for hotel/motels, attractions? Any advice is appreciated.

Assuming the first reply wasn't the answer you were seeking, I have a suggestion. Do a Forum search using "Detroit" as the keyword. One recent thread getting a lot of sightseeing responses was called "5 hours to kill near Detroit." There's also an older thread from around the beginning of 1998 called "What is a must in Detroit." Both have myriad suggestions and Windsor also is mentioned. There is more than enough to do in Detroit to keep you busy for your 4-to-5-day visit--and I'm sure you'll get a lot of responses.

Thank you to Elizabeth, csigirl, and ozzie. My pals are set on staying in Detroit, so now my question is which Embassy Suites? We can get a rate of $99. per night at either Detriot locations--One location is at 850 Tower Rd in Troy, and it is formerly a Doubletree Guest Suites. The other location is at 19525 Victor Pkway in Livonia. I've stayed at many Embassy Suites, so I am familiar with the amenities and style. Do you have any recommendations as to which location is better? Older hotel, newer hotel, etc. Anything to help us choose, since the price is the same at each location. Thanks again.

Jean,
I would suggest Livonia, the area is nicer, I work in Troy, and it is a very congested area, rush hour is terrible, (alot of high rise office bldgs) however there are 2 great malls in the Troy area, one very upscale Somerset Mall, and the other is called Oakland Mall, the Livonia area also has a couple malls close by, Laurel Park Place and Livonia Mall, and Twelve Oaks is close in Novi, great restaruants in both areas, both about the same distance to Detroit (2 new casinos in Detroit) and one in Windsor.
Feel free to e-mail me w/add'l questions, sorry if I confused you even more, but I think I would choose Livonia.

Absolutley do not stay in Livonia. Livonia is an older, o.k. to live in, but not a good place to visit, suburb of Detroit. Troy is much nicer, newer and closer to various activities. Yes the traffic is bad at rush hour, but that's true all over Detroit, even in Livonia. Also, the Troy Embassy Suite is in an office park that will probably be completely empty over the holiday week-end.
