PWS or KF Cruise

I know that both are good, but given a choice, which cruise do you reccommend: Prince William Sound Glacier Cruise or Kenai Fjords Cruise?

BTW: I have take whale watching cruies already in Hawaii

We loved the NW Kenai Fjords 9.5 hr boat tour, but if whale watching and other wildlife is not an issue, then I'd go with the PWS if it's one of the 26 glacier type of tours and seeing glaciers is your goal. Very tough call--too bad it's not more affordable to do both, huh?!

Good luck with your planning!

I've only been on the Kenai Fjords Cruise but I would pick that one because Seward is such a nice town with good restaurants whereas Whittier it a former military base. The drive thru the tunnel is interesting but it's not a place I where I would spend the night again.

We are spending 3 nighs in Seward,so location is not an issue for either tour.

As Bayou Girl says, its always boils down to cost!!

You are so right, BQ, as always! Next summer we may camp (still trying to talk DH into trying camping in Alaska) so we can afford to do more tours. To me, it's the best way to see the best of Alaska.

Are the two different cruises that much different? And if you're doing a cruise from Vancouver to Whittier, is it still worth it to do both/or either day cruise in PWS or KFC? This is a big decision for me.

Yes, these trips are VERY different, I've done many. And be very clear- NO comparism to anything from your cruise ship- just way substandard compared to both of these areas in a tour boat. A cruise ship- is transportation.

Plenty of people do nothing more than the cruise ship and are perfectly happy, but they also probably don't know the difference?? Determine what your priority is and how often you are going to get to Alaska.

I've only cruised on the state ferry. The Columbia is smaller than the cruise ships and although we saw orcas very close up the ferry didn't stop so we could watch. On a KF tour the boat is going to stop whenever there is very interesting action. There is excellent narration and a feeling of being much closer to the wildlife. My husband took some wonderful video. We were close enough to the whale to smell whale breath. I also marvelled at how close to rocks we could get.
