Punta Gorda Florida Dining

Visiting my elderly mother this weekend in Punta Gorda and I'd like to take my extended family out for dinner (no children). Any suggestions for a nice restaurant in the area that won't break the bank? Nothing too exotic--but then I doubt Punta Gorda has anything exotic.

I commented once before about the Laishley Crab House in Punta Gorda if you like seafood. It has a great view although I haven't been there lately.

The Captain's Table at Fisherman's Wharf is very nice with a view; the River City Grill (downtown) is also good. If you are interested in inexpensive and good seafood in a really funky, Old-Florida setting, just outside of town is the Peace River Seafood and Crab Shack at 5337 Duncan Road.

Enjoy!

Agree with Laishley Crab House. Nice outdoor patio and very nice seafood. Were there about 6 months ago.

I have enjoyed River City Grill, and I think they may have a sister restaurant with "Red" in the name. Not helpful but a start.

Judy, take this for what it is worth (Not much!). My elderly Dad lived in Punta Gorda for many years; he thought it was heaven on earth. We visited many, many times and mostly went to chain restaurants. As PG added new places, we tried them out. River City Grill: my husband and I loved it, Dad, not so much. Too dark, too fancy, too expensive, etc.etc. He didn't live to see Laishely, but with that view over his beloved Peace River, know he would have loved it.

If this does not apply to your relatives, just ignore.

rncheryl, I think my mom would also be uncomfortable in a fancy, expensive restaurant. Knowing her, she would only order an appetizer and then say she was full! You can take the lady out of the depression era, but you can't take the depression era out of the lady! I think I'll go with Laishely.

Agree with these recommendations. My parents really enjoy the River City Grill. Also, like the Crab House. I like Deans for Mexican. Harpoon Harry's is a lot less formal.
