Pueblo in New Mexico --help me find!!

On one of our out-west vacations (1998), we spotted the most incredible pueblo just off I 40. It was west of Albuquerque, about where the Acoma Pueblo is, but it was on the NORTH side of I40 -- the Acoma pueblo is on the SOUTH side of I 40 and about 15 off the highway. Could this have been PART of the Acoma 'village'?

We spotted it too late to stop, and didn't have time to turn around and find it. Can anyone help me identify it?

We're taking I 40 again next month, and i would love to see it, IF its 'open' to be seen. We've been to Mesa Verde, the Taos Pueblo etc. but this really caught our eye.

TIA for any ideas you might have!

It sounds like you're describing the Laguna Pueblo. Here's a website that may help:

That's the one!!!! Thank you soo much, lyn!

And what a great web-site! Did you stop at any of the pueblos mentioned? We've only toured the Taos Pueblo, which was amazing, and i'd love to see more of them.

Any other info greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Ellen~Chronicle Books has a guide to the pueblos which include feast days, directions etc. I can't remember the title but it is paperback and pretty affordable to my memory.

Ellen: No, I'm sorry to say that I haven't really visited the pueblos. I've been to the Taos Pueblo briefly, and arrived the end of a feast at the Jemez Reservation. I meant togo to Acoma 2 weeks ago, but at the end of a 1500 mile trip, my husband and I couldn't stand the thought of another tourist activity. I'd like to drive around and visit a few pueblos with my kids some long weekend. I have been to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center twice, and I have enjoyed those visits.

when you go out there again, definitely stop by and take a tour at the Acoma Pueblo. It was very interesting and you can also look at and buy the most incredible pottery there! Did not go to Laguna though...

Thanks Pam, i'll check that out!

Lyn, thanks for the reminder of the Cultural Center. We ran out of time when we were last in albuquerque, so i just added that to next months itinerary. So much to see and do, and regardless of how many weeks we have, there's NEVER enough time! sigh...
