Public trans. from LAX to Dodger Stadium (and back)?
We're going to be in LA for a couple of days this summer and want to see some baseball. Arriving at LAX just before noon on a Sunday. We have hotel reservations near the airport.
Two questions:
A.) Is it possible to get from LAX to Dodgers Stadium for a mid-afternoon Sunday game?
2.) Can this be accomplished using public transportation? I have read that the LAX FlyAway bus can get us from LAX to Union Station, from which, in theory, we could take a bus or taxi.
Okay, four questions:
C.) Will this work in reverse after the game on a Sunday evening?
4.) The game time is "TBD." If "TBD" turns out to be 1:10 pm...is that doable?
I've seen this thread that essentially says having a car is an absolute necessity in LA: http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...hould-stay.cfm
Was hoping to defer renting to avoid an extra day's rental fee, as well as an extra night's parking fee.

Arrival day: I'd say no, you'd have to get to your hotel to drop your bags, then back to LAX to catch the Flyaway, then catch the Dodger Shuttle from downtown to the stadium.
Not sure exactly where your hotel is, but there's really no public transportation from the airport to Dodger Stadium that wouldn't take about 90 minutes each way.
If you were lucky enough to arrive at LAX just as a Flyaway bus was headed downtown, I don't know. Amtrak has baggage storage but only for passengers, so you'd have to buy an $8 ticket to Glendale Station and pretend you were a passenger. Then leave Union station on the dodger shuttle.
Oh and I would say absolutely not if gametime is 1:10pm. Your flight could easily arrive 30 mins late. Even taking a taxi to the game with your baggage would be iffy, and with the uptick in security at the stadium , what "baggage" would they allow?

They've been having some really low rental fees on weekends so check into just a one-day rental, maybe pickup at airport and return to the nearest Hertz to your hotel?
Even with a rental car you'd be pushing it, though, especially for a 1:10pm game.
P.S. on the Sunday evening question. That would be easier by public trans because you wouldn't have baggage to worry about and would already be checked into your hotel. There are various options by public trans including local bus to Santa Monica then Santa Monica express bus to downtown....or returning... green line metro from Union Station to as close to your hotel as you can get (Hawthorne station?), then short taxi ride.

If you go to the hotel and check in first -- maybe by the fifth inning.
By public transport I don't think it would even be possible w/ your times.

Arriving a little late means missing a little of the game traffic, but you could have a long hike from the car. We live near LAX and allow 90 minutes if we want to be in our seats for the lineup announcement.
Sunday games are usually at 1:10, but starts for the Angels or Cubs games in August could be any time depending on the TV coverage. The times might not be announced until after the All Star break. BTW, the Giants game on Monday 8/31 would be a better game unless you're a diehard Cubbie. Giants games are almost always sell-outs, so you'd need to go after those tickets ASAP.

Why are you staying near the airport and where exactly are you staying? It is not a good area to stay as it lacks places to eat and walk.
If your hotel has service with the Ocean Express Shuttle, then for $5 pp you can visit Manhattan Beach Pier or Manhattan Village Mall.
If you are staying in nearby El Segundo or Manhattan Beach then you might be OK. If you stay near LAX then yes you will need the car.
