Providence to Boston? How?
Will fly into Providence May 2001 (free flight) for meetings. Then want to go to Boston on my own for 4-5 days. Don't want to rent a car because of Boston parking problems. Train to Boston?? or even bus? Are the stations anywhere near downtown? Any suggestions of areas for me to stay that would be safe and transportation to interesting areas?? Appreciate any info.

The MBTA Commuter rail travels between Providence & Boston a couple times a day. Check out www.mbta.com
Can't say for Providence's train station, but South Station in Boston is right in the city. In Boston, I would recommend staying in the Back Bay. Keep in mind that lodging in Boston is $$$$$!! Hotels that come to mind are Back BAy Hilton, Copley Marriott, Westin, and the Lenox. Do a search on this site for "hotels in Boston" and you should find some more advice.
When in Boston, the 'T' (subway) is the easiest and cheapest way to travel around the city. HOpe this helps!

Providence to Boston is around a 45 minute train ride. You can take amtrak or the MBTA. The MBTA will probably be cheaper. If you are staying in Back Bay, Beacon Hill, or the SOuth End you are best off getting off at Back Bay station.
For the rest, Boston is a very safe city. If you do a search for Boston on this site you'll find out a lot more

Don't laugh, but if you're traveling for work and/or are arriving early in the morning, I would consider a cab. My husband did that when he flew from San Diego on the red eye. There were no buses or trains at 6 a.m., so he found a cab driver more than willing to take the trip. I think it cost around $120.
