Providence and Newport RI

We will be finishing up a stay in the New England area with 2 nights in Rhode Island. Our current plans are to spend a day in the Newport area. We'll be flying out of the airport in Providence. Any suggestions on a hotel or an area to stay in (or an area to avoid)? Thanks!

There are many hotels near the airport you could stay at. You didn't say when you would be visiting, might be busy at certain times.

Newport you can see in a day and then head to the Warwick area for your last night before you fly out. Newport is about a 45 min. drive (depending upon traffic) from Newport so an easy commute to the airport.

Hotels located near the airport are listed on above website. Some of them may offer free shuttles to airport as they are not that far from the airport. T.F. Green airport is a very easy airport to fly in/out of. We live fairly close to the airport so try to schedule flights out of there. Check in is very quick also. There are many restaurants located in the area as well. Good luck. Have a pleasant visit.

Do you want to stay in Newport or Providence? I have been to Providence recently on business and would not recommend staying in Warwick. It is close to the airport but doesn't offer anything else. It's a depressed area. You would be much better off staying in Providence.

KathyK - I totally disagree with your assessment.

I really liked Warwick, and ate at the Legal Seafoods restaurant near the airport every other night on a two week stay in the area.

It certainly did not seem depressed to me, but I only spent 15 nights there.

How long did you say you spent in Warwick?

We will be staying 2 nights. On the day we drive in we would like to go to a couple spots around Providence, then on our full day there, visit Newport. I'll check out the hotels in both Providence and Warwick.

I know in my searches several of the hotels include a breakfast voucher for a fee. Are there any nice little cafes for breakfast for our day in Newport? What about in the Warwick area? Providence?
