Outside of large cities, we have gotten larger Priceline rooms which could have accomodated a couple extra people. When I have made special requests, they have almost always been granted - two beds, non-smoking room, room on an upper floor, etc. I have only reserved with Priceline when those were not requirements though.

Outside of larger cities there are many more hotles with double/doubles (2 double beds). That culd work for 4 - dpending on who you are - but not for 5.
But - if y ou bid Priceline you are bidding on a room for 2. And if 4 of you turn up, while the hotel may have a room for you - they are no longer bound by the Pricline contract and can charge whatever they want.
So - I would just look for deals on all the various discount sites for the # of people you really have (travelzoo, kayak etc).
