Trying to decide between Etcetera Etcetera and Roberto Passon. Was originally set on Roberto Passon but have since read some reports of slow service??? Any advice...

TTess, you must be right about the show. That's why it's still sold out nearly every night on Broadway in its seventh year, and still selling out in London after 9 years, and brings the whole crowd to their feet singing and dancing every single night. NO ONE likes it. HUH?

Latig, I'm having dinner at Etc. Etc. this Sunday night, but haven't been yet, so hard to compare. But since I'm one who has recommended Roberto Passon for so long here, I'd say that I've never heard of anyone going to Roberto Passon, telling them they had theatre tickets, and having any problem with service. Of course, you should allow plenty of time. I think the most negative comments I've heard about slow service were for brunch, but I could be wrong.

(Kal, that was funny. It does sound like something I'd ask. But I have no idea what TTess is talking about on the rest of it. Maybe that's just as well.

I'd have to agree that I've never had slow service at Roberto Passon either. The last time I went was a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday, and they were pretty busy, but we still finished quickly and even had to order coffee and dessert to "kill" time before the play.

For what it's worth, I'd also suggest that Roberto Passon is less expensive than Etc. Etc., although you can go to restaurant.com and buy and print off a $25 coupon for Etc. Etc. and pay $10 (or less sometimes) saving you $15 or more off your bill.

I love Roberto Passon and any time the theater is near there, that is where I eat. Their pastas are fantastic. Never had a problem with service either. Neo! You are on your way! Will email you my cell in case you don't still have it. We are seeing theater with you one night, but maybe can get together a bit more than that.

I know, I know...I have friends and family who love the show. I know it's not just me because I've heard it from others but not every show can be every person's cup of tea. Have a great time, Latig.

Of course not. I wasn't particularly blown away by Spring Awakening, but I sure wouldn't post a blanket statement saying the show is terrible, as I know that is not the opinion of many, many who see it.

It just seemed particularly odd to get a blanket comment about one of the most popular shows on Broadway today (and for the past 7 years) as being "terrible". Can you name ANY show in the world that EVERYONE liked? I sure can't.

With such blanket negativity about a popular show, I think someone got confused about who needs an increase in their SSRI.

We are keeping our reservation with Roberto Passon for next week; 2 hours before the show We are in New York all week so hopefully we can fit in Etcetera Etcetera another night. As far as the show, we heard it was a lot of fun...not sure I want to mention the others we have planned...

FWIW, I loved Mamma Mia. It's a fun, lively show with great music and wonderful performances. One of my favorite musicals ever, in fact.

Can't add anything to the dinner discussion, but I also loved Mamma Mia and saw it in London (under protest but ending up loving it) and then again on Broadway as part of a work function. It's a fun show and you'll end up loving the music....even if you thought you couldn't stand Abba!
