I'm thinking of going to the Post Ranch Inn this summer but i'm not sure what type of room to book. Obviously I want to spend the least amount of money possible so I'm thinking of booking the mid butterfly room. Do you think I will be disappointed? The tree houses seem pretty cool but i'm not sure if I should spend the extra $$. I just dont want to get there and spend $495 a night and not be happy. Also, the rooms look a bit old/outdated on the interior.. is that just the style? thanks for your help!

I haven't stayed there myself (one of these days) but my good friend stayed there in Sept. for their 25 th anniversery. They stayed in the Butterfly house and loved it. They said the service was amazing and they received the same level of service that the more expensive rooms did. They didn't have an ocean view but you can see the ocean from pretty much everywhere else on the property.
I know what you mean about the decor looking a little dated but I guess once you're there it all goes together well. Hope this helps you.

I haven't stayed in the rooms, but we had the most amazing dinner there at the Sierra Mar. The decor in the restaurant is gorgeous and those ocean views are just amazing. The food and service was also excellent.

I haven't heard of anyone being disappointed with a stay here. Have a wonderful time! ***kim***

We've only stayed in the upper Butterfly rooms. We usually book a mid-week special and get the room for 350.00 a night.

If you stay in the Butterfly rooms, book the upper ones. They have high ceilings, more light, better views, and the decks are open to the trees.

The upper Butterfly rooms at Post Ranch Inn are very large, comfortable and well appointed, BUT not in a Four Seasons sort of way. PRI is so understated and unsnooty and is perfect for us. It is an amazing place.

Go....go...go...! My husband and I are returning in March for our 3rd visit. We've always stayed in the butterfly rooms and have never been disappointed. The bathtub is amazing... and the beds are sooo comfortable. I know what you mean about the rooms looking a little outdated/hokey on the website... but they're not!

My only suggestion would be to go at another time of year... the summer can be extremely warm. I actually prefer to go when it's a bit cooler because the gorgeous infinity pool is heated. It's so great to walk to the pool in your bathing suit and a robe or comfy sweatpants and relax in the pool.

To be a guest at Billy's Post Ranch Inn, I'd sleep anywhere, there are no lesser rooms, only different. I have tried to decide on a favorite, but, impossible, I love them all for different reasons. This is a magical place like no where else on earth. Be sure to look up and watch for the Condors! And save up your lunch money to dine at Sierra Mar! It is not to be missed

Hi Kim! Three times and hoping to be there in August. Mountain House, Tree House and Ocean House, personally I don't even notice if I'm ocean or mountain side because the Inn is 1200 feet above the ocean so I can't hear the surf anyway. I love the view in every direction. Mickey's architecture is so amazing I'd sleep on the floor just to be in his creativity. I love this man!
Have you seen the new Post Ranch Inn Book? It is a wonderful photo journal of the land, Billy Post's family and the others that first settled and developed Big Sur. I still laugh, they HAD to eat black abalone! Wish I'd been one of those Big Sur women!
Was the SeaScape a 'good' offer? I'm still healing a four piece broken collar bone, but beginning to feel very restless to escape. Trouble is, the more magic spots we discover, the more difficult to decide! (((hugs to you)))

Seascape is offering 40% discounts on some of their rooms through the beginning of April. A one bedroom suite with a full oceanview is only $200/night. Sounds like a nice time to visit Seascape. ***kim***
