Possibly moving to Seattle need advice

Hi there!

Originally from Chicago, 30 years old, single and thinking about possibly moving to Seattle for a job. I am going there tomorrow and will only have one day to site see. Does anyone have suggestions on what I should do that day? Will I need to rent a car? Where do young cosmopolitan adults go out on a Thursday night?

Thanks!!

So many recent threads on this- search first, maybe?

Except- with only one day, no, you will not need a car.

If I were considering a move I would skip "site see"ing, would in fact rent a car & use it to drive around the various in-city neighborhoods to get an idea if you might be happy living here.

I'd include Capitol Hill, Queen Anne, Belltown, South Lake Union, Eastlake, as good places to start. What's the location of your potential job? Traffic's bad here and you might want to consider living near where you work (depending on where that is).

If you job interview is in or near downtown Seattle, you would be better off without a car (parking is expensive). However, if it is in Bellevue, Redmond, or aother town away for the center, a car might be essential.

Most neighborhoods have bars people your age frequent. In which neighborhood will you be on Thursday evening?

One day of parking isn't going to break the bank, if you were moving to a new city wouldn't it be worth it to be able to take a good look around? And cover the most ground in the short period of time available?

As far as neighborhoods to check out, I'd highly recommend West Seattle. Very close to downtown and has everything you need.

What Suze said. If you might be moving here check out the neighborhoods she mentioned, plus Fremont and Ballard.

By "cosmopolitan" do you mean "sophisticated and at home in all parts of the world"?

If so, it won't be easy to find such individuals in a one-night search in Seattle, and even more so if you go looking for them in Ballard.

For bars, I would head to Belltown or the Pike/Pine Corridor on Capitol Hill.
