Portland experts, restaurant advice please
My DD and her BF moved to Portland a couple of months ago. The BF got a job at Intel. His parents have given them a season subscription to the symphony. (These are self-described "orch dorks" , they both are violin players so this was a good present for them).
The BF's 24th b-day is in a couple of weeks and I thought maybe I would get him a gift certificate or 2 to a restaurant that would be good to go to pre-symphony. These are adventurous eaters, so type and style of food is not as important as "good" food with easy access to the symphony so they don't feel too rushed.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

The Heathman Hotel -
1001 Southwest Broadway at Salmon,
Portland - (503) 241-4100
Higgins
1239 Southwest Broadway
Portland, OR 97205
(503) 222-9070
Clyde Common
1014 Southwest Stark Street
Portland, OR 97205
If they are young Clyde Common might be the best choice for them. I've been there a few times and it seems to be hip for younger people. The food is good and it is a fun place. It can get very crowded so I'd suggest either earlier or later reservations.

Definitely Southpark. I also really like Higgins. Not a fan of the Heathman at all, way too stuffy, IME.
The good thing about Portland is that the downtown area is really compact, so you can go with pretty much anything in this area and it won't be far from the Schnitz.

I had the best macaroni and cheese of my life at The Heathman a few years ago. I still remember it when i am tempted to try it at other restraunts. It was a freezing, rainy night in February and we'd been walking awhile and finally the rain was coming down so hard we needed to get inside... we were both happy with what we ordered... although I cant remember exactly what my date ordered... the drinks were "well poured!" Nice gift!
