Well - I won't respond any further.
Some of us will just have to agree to disagree about trying to inform people why more specific posts will be more productive.
As for going away because Fodor's doens't need me - sorry - most of the posters - and the editors seem to disagree. Otherwise why would I have been quoted in 5 of the updated guidebooks.

oh please JayZee. i can definitely attest to the fact that nytraveler has helped many a person have a better trip to NYC. I for one, greatly appreciated her advice.
Next time, think about it when you say Fodors doesnt 'need' someone.

I think it is VERY TIMELY to address this subject - and I thank nytraveler for doing so.
It appears to me from some of the recent posts that there are a growing number people who are just squeaking by with finances but still are wanting to be "traveling expansively" without "traveling expensively".
Now, don't get me wrong. I'm pretty sure that everyone here has traveled on a budget in the past, as I have. But I'm talking about those who are planning a trip to a destination obviously out of their budget range, trying to make it fit somehow.
I agree that in order to give viable suggestions to others, an OP needs to give *all* the criteria mentioned above - time, location, ages and number of party, etc. And that applies to everything - hotel, restaurants, entertainment, etc.
To those innumerable others who merely read these posts and do not post an inquiry yourself: Keep in mind that the suggestions made are for those particular individuals to whom they were addressed. The same recommendations do not apply to everyone in every circumstance.
I hope that nytraveler doesn't take the unappropriate comments of a small minority to heart. What does count is trying to help others the best you can and, IMHO, nytraveler does that.
