We had a very nice stay at the Mayflower Hotel a few years back, although I understand that their rates have gone up thanks to the Spitzer scandal. Anyway, the Mayflower was a pretty easy walk to the White House, etc., although I don't know if it's farther away than the other hotels you mentioned. Also, it was right near Dupont Circle, where there are a lot of bars and restaurants.
As far as being a woman goes, there are military people guarding EVERYTHING you would want to see, so you'll be quite safe.

Thanks for sharing your posts! I feel traveling to one’s dream destinations is wondrous experience. It is always better to make travel and booking well in advance. You can book through online directories and so that you can make comparison of offers. Try to get a package deal that includes all your requirements.
