PLEASE... Help with Oregon itinerary.
My wife and I are flying into Portland on June 25th.We have been planning, searching,and looking for weeks now including reading many posts in this fourm, but it has become difficult to collectively plan all there is to see and do in the ten days we have. I will list our VERY rough draft of an itinerary. Please feel free to make any suggestions, changes, anything to help. Day 1. Fly into Portland. Would like any suggestions on what to do with a overnight stay planned in Astoria. Day two. See sights as we travel south along the coast, ending that evening in Newport or Yachats. Day 3.Depart the central coast with stops at lighthouses and other recommended stops with the day ending around Gold Beach. Day 4. A trip up the Rouge river along with other suggestions from the helpful people on this forum. Day 5 is still very much up in the air. We would like to continue south to the Redwood National Park in northern Calif. then head back north on Hwy. 199 towards Grants Pass. With that being said we thought we could travel approx. 150 miles a day. We don't know of alot to do in this areas but we want to visit Crater Lake,waterfalls,do some hiking,other sightseeing, etc... That nights stay and the next are yet undecided. (any ideas)We want to then move on to the Willamette Valley to visit wineries, possibly more waterfalls, hiking and so on. Also need suggestions on lodging for that evening. We plan on our trip comming to an end by spending our last days in the Mt. Hood/Columbia River Gorge area before flying out of Portland on the 6th. We would very much like suggestions on where to spend the 4th.(Portland waterfront blues Festival maybe?) I know this itinerary may seem lofty, but we want to see all we can with what time we have. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

For info on Day 2:
Cascade Head Trail north of Lincoln City is a most beautiful hike (see Nature Conservancy Trails for details). You begin in woods and end up viewing the entire coast line. It is not that difficult if you are in decent shape.
Newport is a cute (although touristy) town, you may catch a glimpse of whales even.
Newport Aquarium is very nice also.
Neskowin (north of Lincoln City) is a charming village and there are hotel room/condos for rent at a decent price. They are not fancy but have nice views. The Neskowin Hawk Cafe is warm & cozy (right on the coast road along with a cute general store). Pacific City, just north of Neskowin, has a great pub/seafood restaurant called Pelican Pu
casual but nice) right on the beach. I would not bother with the Tillamook Cheese factory. The wineries in Dundee and McMinville are all good. Alder House III Glass Blowing shop and Mossy Creek Pottery located just south of Lincoln City on Immonen Road are great stops for gifts etc. Hope this helps.

Your post is very dense and hard to follow, and it isn't clear how many nights you will be in Oregon. You arrive June 25 and you will be in Portland July 4. Do you leave July 5?
In any event, you should definitely stay in Cannon Beach rather than Astoria on your first night. In fact, it would be a good idea to spend two nights there to get your bearing.
Travel on the coast is slow going. It takes longer to get from one place to another than one might think.
Crater Lake is well worth visiting, but it is off the beaten path and not a good destination if you are limiting yourself to 150 miles a day.
The Columbia River Gorge and Mt. Hood can be visited from Portland, but we like to spend a night in Hood River.
Mount St. Helens can also be visited as a day trip from Portland.

Astoria has a beautiful Marine Museum, There is Flavel House filled with antiques. The downtown area has a street market on the weekend. The restaruant we love is
" Ships Inn" Get the 1/2 lunches our dinner because the full dinners are so huge! The fried calamari is to die for! ( No taxes in Oregon!) The Lewis and Clark Museum is fantastic to see also. See Seaside, Oregon. Lodgings are cheaper here then Canon Beach. The road is very slow going down to Tillamook but you can do it ! Lincolin Center is a huge shopping Mall, Newport is a cute sea town and the Devils Bowl(?) is interesting and has great clam chowder! The light houses are interesting. I do not know if you are going as far as Florence but that is a great place too with huge sand dunes!

Just for clarification, it is the Maritime Museum. The market runs only on Sunday is called the Sunday Market. It runs along 12th Street and is open from around 8-2 each Sunday through October. www.oldoregon.com 
The Hotel Elliott would be a great place for you to stay for your overnighter in Astoria. My husband and son were just there on Sat. and said the rooftop garden is beautiful and the views are gorgeous from the top! www.hotelelliott.com The Ship Inn is a great casual place to get fish and chips. You might also want to consider meals at the Cannery Cafe, the Silver Salmon Grille, T. Paul's Urban Cafe and Fulio's for great Italian. Have fun! ***kim***

I am not a expert on Oregon, but I did go there a few years back. We stayed i Portland for 4 days and my frined talked me into driving to Cannon Beach. It was a dearling area, very quaint and to me worth the drive. It was not far outside of town and may be on your way. I loved Cannon Beach, have fun!!
