Please help me decide where to go...

with a 3 yr old and a 2 yr old, we want to go somewhere in the mountains and someplace they will enjoy. We live in the Raleigh Durham area and so will be travelling by car. Any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated...

Thanks,

D.

I think if you'd report this with a more specific title somone who lives near that area would be happy to help. Try "Camping with Toddlers in Raleigh Durham." Good luck!

My first thought was a cabin in the smokey mountains... close to Pigeon Forge and Gaitlinburg... we loved staying up in the foothills in a home perched cliffside w/ a hot tub on the deck overlooking the smokies... loved Smokey Mtn Nat'l Park, although your kids might not be old enought to enjoy it. Not quite sure what you're looking for for them.

Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg is like Myrtle Beach in the mountains. There would be things for them to enjoy like all the rides but they still might be a little young.
Asheville has the WNC Nature Center which would be great for them. Then of course you have the Tweetsie Railroad which that age would like - not in Asheville. In Dillsboro they have a railroad ride as well - kids usually really like that.

Don't shoot me, but I really enjoyed taking the kids to Dollywood. Perfect size for a park (small) and cool.

Yes, Pigeon Forge can be a zoo, but the kids loved splashing in the hotel pool after a day in the park. Don't they all?

High Hampton Inn in Cashiers, NC is a good choice for a family.

I am not experienced in this advice however I was just Live Auction Chairman for the American Liver Foundation in Connecticut for their major fundraiser. One of our donations was a week in the Smoky Mountain in Parrotsville of a lovely home in or near a cool resort there. My contact email address was mountaincreek.com. It was sort of a rustic resort area with lovely homes and resort advantages like a pool and horseback riding etc. Might be something to look into. The house I auctioned off (our kind donation) was called the Hideaway slept seven on 5.5 acres with fireplace and hot tub. This place sure would have worked for us when our children were small! Let me know if it suits your bill. H

I reside in Charlotte & it is not uncommon for us to rent a cabin in the Lake Lure area during the summer. You can (literally) pullover & jump in the creek all along old 74 & there are plenty of reasonably priced accommodations available. Try vrbo.com to start for any of the NC Mts. I have an almost 3 yr old & a 3 week old.
