Simple John: if you're asking whether or not we think you'd like Costa Rica (or Hawaii for that matter), post a few details about what you enjoy about your favorite vacation spots. Unfortunately an open ended question may attract lots of comments and opinions but they may not be relevant for you unless other posters have the same tastes.

Nicki my nephew who is 12 said to me "why are you still going to Europe?" When I graduate I want to do real travel. I want to t go to Latin America. That would be an exciting trip. The bar of travel has certainly been raised with this next generation coming up.

Simple John is that name a tip off? Not sure how old you are but when you are 40+ get two weeks a year in a job you might work 50-70 hours a week, it is not about being lazy. It is about truly needing a break. That was me when I worked in finance anyway. Going to a new place is certainly an adventure but it takes patience and work not somthing in plenty of supply when you are so drained from work. Also something to be said for making a home away from homes as when you return to the same destination. Just another perspective.

I've got two...
When I told my mother about my upcoming trip to the UK she said "But you have a horrible sense of direction!" A slight problem YES, a reason not to go NO WAY.

My brother is constantly knocking me for wanting to go to Scotland and not Ireland. (My opinion is that I should save Ireland for one entire vacation) Anyway, we're talking to a new friend who is from London and my brother says "Its just like New York!" This from my brother who's never been to New York OR London. Oh well. Gotta love him.

Sarah: I'm from the deep south. I wouldn't know how put on a pair of skis! And...this will be my first trip to Scotland. Can't hardly wait. I'm going in November and am already trying to schedule more days in Scotland. Try a new post to get some more info. Sheila is especially helpful.

My favorite place is Skye although I am not officionato (sp). There are places along the coast that look almost mythical sharp peaks that reach up but stand in a cluster around water. Often everything is shrowded in mist and I guess that is where the dreamy quality comes in.

Hey Are you a cook at all memejw. Sometimes cooking foods from an area can bring the experience of travle closer. I did a year abroad in London in College. Usually around Xmas I make figgy pudding. You just pool it off the web. You can also go into the European forum and ask for xmas speciaties from Scotland. Oh yes saw a great trifle this morning on "calling all cooks". I thought the woman lived in the south.
Just a thought.

Great idea. My sister would love that. I'd like to find some recipes for traditional Scottish food.
Landscape sounds lovely. One of the top reasons we're going to Scotland. I'm having a bit of a problem finding a travel book that really goes into detail about Scotland. I've seen several for the entire UK but those seem to focus only on Glasgow and Edinburgh. I need to check Amazon and see what other customers recommend. As far as a trifle goes, no one in my family has ever prepared that. Since the temps are dropping this is considered gumbo weather.

Have you check out Lonely Planet guides? Blue guides have a reputation for history coverage. I don't think I will go to Italy again without one. You saw people in every museum carrying one.
