Planning summer vacations for 2008.

Anybody already planning trips for the summer of 2008? And if so where too. I dont know where I want to go yet. Just some place with blue beach water this time.

I've already got my reservations. We're going to Isle Royale National Park and then Door County. I had never heard of these places. But thanks to wonderful info. on this forum, found them. Can't wait!

zztopz, I'm jealous! Isle Royale is a real treat. Are you backpacking or staying at Rock Harbor?

We are. No firm plans yet but we'l likely meet our son and his girlfriend in Egypt (they're living in Uganda for year and plan to spend the month of August traveling before they come home). Right now, they're thinking of Egypt, Morocco and someplace in Europe (they have to make their way back to London to come home).

I'm headed to Italy in May for my 30th wedding anniversary - most everything is booked for that. Then in November 2008 we're headed to Australia to dive the Great Barrier Reef.

For me, New Orleans again in early April for French Quarter Fest, a few days in SoCal at each end of the trip, and AMTRAK to get there and back.

Later, in July, AMTRAK up to Seattle, fly to Juneau, then explore SE Alaska using the Alaska ferrys.

We are planning to go to SE Asia in June. We don't have reservations yet, but are working on a loose itinerary.

Love this topic, my friends (we’ve been going on vacation together for the past 4 yrs.) think I am crazy because I’ve already made hotel reservations and have some what of an itinerary put together. We debated for a little bit of where to go was dying to visit Alaska after all I’ve read here but one of them refuses to visit there (hates cold weather) so we will be going to Southern California for 11 days in June. It’s great to see other people enjoy early planning, to me planning is ½ the fun of vacations.

Gina, my grandfather always said that planning was half the fun of the vacation - definitely true for me as well! I've been planning Scotland for June 2008 since I got back from Ireland in June 2006

We are returning to Alaska in August .. friends wanted to go with us and there is so much to see and do. This time around we have Bear Viewing on tap and also a repeat visit to Denali National Park. We will also take a day cruise on Prince William Sound to see the tidewater glaciers.

I definitely need to forward this thread to my friends. Great to see so many others do the same I was starting to worry about my sanity (have not finished one vacation, and starting to plan a new one). Wise man your grandfather .

Can’t deny the fact that I am very jealous hopefully I can talk her into Alaska for Summer of 2009! I had inquired about renting RV and all. Have a great trip, and happy planning to us all.

Oh, I made my reservations maybe 3 months ago for a cruise to Alaska in June.

Colombiana, I told my son about my plans for 2 years from now, he says I'm crazy

I think we're going to get our longhaul travel for 2008 out of the way before summer. We have one-way tickets (hers paid, mine an award) to Stockholm that we'll probably use in April, then will head south (possibly with a new Volvo picked up at the factory) to Tuscany and/or Normandy/Brittany before heading home, most likely from Brussels. May include some face time with old (well, seasoned) pals in the UK beforehand.

Other summer travel will be to Ashland (OR) for a Shakespeare fix, then nothing until an anticipated cruise around the bottom of S. America (maybe even Antarctica) in December or January '09.

But plans have been known to change.

Oh, meant to add that we'll probably head to some friends' house in Mississippi for a blues/BBQ break en route to Sweden.

The only thing planned so far is a road trip through Eastern Oregon. Maybe a hotel or two, but mostly backpacking!

We will be going to San Francisco for 10 nights and 2 nights in Yosemite. I can't wait!!! We went two years ago and vowed to be back. We hopefully will also be going to Chicago around the fourth of July for the Taste of Chicago.
