That Hampton Inn Soho location is on one of the popular approach streets for the Holland Tunnel.

I doubt you'd want to walk from there to the Embassy Suites dragging luggage. I'd say it's more than half a mile, closer to a mile away. Take a taxi.

It's not usual at all for rates to vary during a stay.

Enter the address of the hotel in google maps and search for hotels nearby. There are several options you may want to consider that are close to the Embassy Suites - with user reviews and star ratings to use to decide.

No, it's not at all unusual for rates to vary by day within any time period. What seems odd is that according to joebear's experience, checking in on a higher priced day raises the rates for ALL days of the stay! I still say that's outrageous!

Starrs suggestion of booking online (maybe just the reservation for the fisrt night) or having the reservation under your friend's name the first night and yours thereafter should take care of the problems.

I think the desk clerk has to be mistaken. Ask her what would happen if the first day were LOWER-PRICED, would you get the lower price for your entire stay? Obviously not, so it shouldn't be true the other way either. I know when I booked the Residence Inn Times Square last year for Thanksgiving, it gave me a price for the first two days and then specifically noted that the price would increase on the 3rd-5th days. She has just got to be wrong. Can you call the main Hilton number, or call the hotel again during a different shift so you get a differnt clerk?

I did call again and she spoke with the manager and he said it was hotel policy.....SO no rate change. I will check the Hilton number and confirm there also. Seems not very service oriented...and very frustrating. I asked the clerk if she would pay the $360 difference and she said no you could shop at Macys for that...

SO to be on the safe side I updated my Hampton Inn SOHO reservation to include all 4 nights...The rate was so great I am just stick with it...$323 Thanksgiving week.

Is the location okay? I know it is further out but we decided we could take a few cabs and still come out ahead since there are 4 of us. We plan to take the Subway also. It is new so new beds and bedding is sounding good.

So funny - I work 3 blocks from there and didn't even realize there is a Hampton Inn there.

The location is VERY close (within 3 blocks) to 2 subway lines: the Canal Street stops for both the 1 train, and the A, C, and E trains. You are a 3 minute walk to central Soho and very near some good local restaurants - Giorgione (run by the founder of Dean and De Luca); Lupe's a small neighborhood mexican joint frequented by hipsters and families; Aquagrill, a very fine seafood restaurant.

The block itself might be a bit quiet, and during rush hour, the nearest avenues, Varick Street (goes downtown) and 6th Avenue (goes uptown) are chock full with Holland Tunnel traffic - just don't take a cab back to the hotel around rush hour and you'll be fine. It's actually a much more convenient location and closer to the train than the ES.

Something just doesn't sound right. Have you checked out the Hilton website? I just did for 4 night over Thanksgiving and I'm getting different info.

Go to www.hilton.com and choose all of the brands.

The Embassy Suites comes up with $279 as a starting point (4 ppl in the room may make the rate higher), the Hampton Inn at W31st St. Madison Square Garden starts at 269, as does the Chelsea Hampton Inn at W. 24th. The Millenium Hilton starts at 329.

I'm amazed at those rates - they seem great for Tgiving week. I'd choose the Hampton Inn for the free breakfasts. I'd be concerned about booking an unopen hotel though - just in case the construction schedule runs late. That's gonna be a hard time of year to find a replacement hotel if it DOESN'T open as scheduled.

Why not book online? I do all my reservations online.

Yes, I was attempting to book online when the higher rate comes up checking in one night before and did not reduce for the nights that show a lower rate at $369. SO that lead to my 2 calls to the Hotel itself.

The saga continues I called the Hilton line and showed I could get the extra night for $309...much cheaper that the website and hotel rate of $459. SO she put me on hold and attempted to call the manager...he was out so she left a message and connected me to Guest Services.

This lead to a communication send to the Hotel ... should hear in 72 hours...SO back to the Embassy it may be....I just like the larger room for 2 mothers and 2 teens....Plus we will enjoy the hot breakfast and snacks...

Thank you for the Hampton Inn information....I feel comfortable with that choice if we end up there...The rate I got was $323 a night which for 2 beds is great during THanksgiving!! I think we can be happy there for sure.

I don't like the Embassy Suites location at all. IMO you would be happier with a Hampton Inn in a better location. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, I agree...but my daughter loves the breakfast and snacks there...

Have both reservations...keeping until I can see pics since SOHO is new

The manager of the Embassy called while I was out so I am thinking I can get my extra night at a reasonable rate...tomorrow will answer that...

Update....Got an email confirmation with my added night at the lower rate. Happy now!

I think Thanksgiving week here is one of the nicest weeks of the year, everyone is in good spirits, as the crazy schedules of the holidays have not quite kicked in yet. All the stores will have their holdiay decorations and there will be sales EVERYWHERE.

All that said, the girls will love a few stores, like Conway (yes I know I will get dinged for mentioning Conway), but it is GREAT for teens, it's a jeans/tee/sweaters/tops kind of place and they can buy a whole new wardrobe and it won't cost an arm and a leg. Jeans =$10 tops = $5, all decent quality.

Conway is next door to Macy's on Broadway.

H&M and Daffy's all within a block at 34th and 6th/Broadway.

Century 21 is a madhouse during the holidays, but might be worth a stop.

We will eat breakfast at EB since it is free and hot...So lunch and dinner.

I especially wanted to get reservations for Tuesday prefix dinner before the theater. I think the girls will love to dress up and have a special dinner....
