I'm currently doing research for a place for the same time period. I am finding a TON of place for under $200. Our budget is even lower than that. I guess it depends on if you need a big resort or a smaller condo unit or individual cottage. We go for the smaller, more local feel types of places. I've found so many it's hard to choose. Have fun googling and please let us know some good finds.

There are a lot of very nice places for way under $200. I seldom pay more than $125 for a 1 Bedroom Condo. Kuhio Shores is a good one. I also have used VRBO and Suite Paradise on Kauai. Hope you have gool luck. I think Condo's are nicer than hotels, unless you want all of the hotel services. Otherwise the condo choice is cheaper and nicer in my opinion.
Have a great time!

sk8r, don't dismiss the East Side. Check out vrbo again and look at the Waipouli area. There are beautiful new condos there and some can be had for $199/night. And, since it was so new, most did not require a 7 night minimum.
Have you decided anything yet?

OK, here's the latest...
My BF has never been to Hawaii and I've been to Oahu and Maui. So after researching and talking quite a bit, we are heavily leaning towards cruising. We cruised with NCL in June to AK and really enjoyed it. We figure this will give him a taste of the islands, although not much.
Then, maybe I can get him to come back and spend several days on Kauai. If not, my mother and I will come back as she has never been.
Right now we are working with a TA to get a balcony cabin for a little less than 1K. Our plan is to arrive in HNL on Friday, early afternoon. Our ship would not leave until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. This gives us time to drive the island.
When I went to Oahu, I rented a car and drove the island counter-clockwise. It was a wonderful drive. We took our time and stopped at so many places to take pictures. It was a wonderful day.
On the ship, we will have one night in Kauai. We're thinking of getting a hotel on a different part of the island than where the ship will dock. No clue where that would be at this time.
I must say, I've been sitting in this chair for almost 10 hours and have been doing nothing but researching airfare, hotels, cruise prices, etc. And I'm still not numb...tee hee
Just excited that I'm coming back to Hawaii!!!!!

I took the NCL Pride of America cruise last February and would not recommend it. The itinerary was fine but the free style cruising was anything but and a huge disappointment, the food so-so. The best thing about the cruise was the balcony room. If you can pick another cruise line.

Seems as though my message from another night did not post. hmmm
But, I have cruised on NCL and really liked it. Was on the SUN last June and enjoyed freestyle. The food at the buffet was OK, but the dining rooms we great. We enjoyed everything about the trip and are looking forward to cruising the Hawaiian islands.
