Kauai -- new Marriott Courtyard??

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are spending 7-8 nights on Kauai in August, and are looking into all sorts of hotels/condos there. I came across the new Marriott Courtyard on the Marriott website, and they have some GREAT AAA room rates for this summer.

Does anyone know anything about this hotel? Has anyone stayed there? I know they are still renovating it, but I wondered how it was and if it would be finished by Aug. Also, where on Kauai is it located? South shore?

It's the former Kaua`i Coconut Beach Resort -- on the windward side of our island (between Waipouli & Kapa`a):

Friends stayed one of their newly renovated rooms -- raved about the furnishings. The pool has now been opened, as has the smaller of the two restaurants. They expect to be fully renovated well before June.

Thanks, auntie! If you ever get a look at it once it's renovated, I'd love to know what you think !

Does this area of Kauai make a good base for exploring the island? What's the distance to say, Princeville or the Poipu areas?

My wife and I are booked in here for 7 nights at the end of March, and given the construction delays, I am wondering if the renovations will be done then. As I recall, this was all supposed to have been done by December 31, now its been pushed the end of February and I am a bit nervous! Does anyone have an update that could provide me some comfort? Thanks!

The reason for the delays is the contractor hired to do the rennovations brought in illegal aliens to work. INS found out and raided the hotel, arresting over half their work crew!

Ditto Auntie M.

We walked by it a few times this past Dec/Jan and took a peek thru the remodeled rooms and they were nice.

The grounds were really trimmed down. Th old place had such a nice pool area but it looked like they really trimmed back the trees/shurbs quite a bit.

People where there in lounge chairs doing sunbathing. The beach there really isn't that swimable at all.

Good location, tho. Central to P'ville and Poipu (about 30 mins) and Westside (about 45ish) all depending on traffic.

Luau right there and Wahoo's across the street.

Short walk down to the CocoMarketplace and if you're in good shape about a 15-30 min walk up to La Playita/Coconuts/Lemongrass/Lizard Lounge/Scotty's BBQ/Bull Shed or down to Mema's, Kintaro's, Whole Enchilada, Korean BBQ.

The hotel that Elvis filmed Blue Hawaii was the Coco Palms Resort, which is closed from the Iniki days. I heard it is being rebuilt soon.
