"NYC lodging isn't any more expensive (and possibly less so) than San Fran, honolulu, LA, to name a few."

Totally untrue. NYC is majorly more expensive now.

I think Austin has not explored hotel prices lately to make such a statement. There is no comparison -- NYC is considerably higher than SF, LA, and I would presume Hawaii, where there tends to be a lot of competition. Unless he is comparing staying in a three star hotel in NYC to staying in a five star resort in Hawaii.

Hate to pile on - but "NYC lodging isn't any more expensive (and possibly less so) than San Fran, honolulu, LA, to name a few" is one of the silliest things I've read in a while.

One can get totally reasonable rooms in the center of all three of those cities for a fraction of the rates in NYC. Would you stay in a $100 room in NYC (if you could find one). I think not.

Heck - in my experience NYC hotels are even higher than London - and w/ the current exchange rates, that is saying something.

I agree with msteacher. You can take a great virtual tour of the must-see spots he/she mentioned on this website: www.mapjack.com Those places are truly awesome to explore!

I would vote for Hawaii because airfare to Hawaii is more expensive than mainland destinations. And not all vouchers will include Hawaii, so this may be a rarer opportunity than you think.

You might post over on the flight boards to see what they think.

For the amount of time you are looking for my vote goes to San Francisco. You can stay in the city center and see so many things from Alcatraz Island to North Beach and Coit Tower, Lombard St, etc. Being a Texan, myself I loved the weather
there. When we were there in the springtime it was highs in the 60's and sunny. Food is great, shopping is great(even though I did't do much of this), and historical landmarks are outstanding. I think SF is a place where you would find plenty to do for a long weekend or an entire week.
