my daughter is a jazz singer - not too many places have good jazz programs, and not too many of those accept singers into the programs. So - no - Fordham was not on her list. You mentioned Purchase in your original post - she had a wonderful audition there - they were all warm and fuzzy, accepted her, but she really had no interest. In the end, she wanted a good music program attached to a good university with a city location.
Smetz - she loves it up there. She is thinking of trying to divide her time between home in NY and a share in an apartment in Montreal after she graduates. But for her, the original impression was a good one. We wandered on to the campus while on vacation when she was only 14 - she looked around and said "I want to go to college here". She also liked it when we spent a few days up there as part of her spring of junior year college tours. But that audition was in February - it was freezing - she didn't think they were nice and didn't think they liked her. I think choosing to go there had at least something to do with it feeling like a challenge. And it has, for the most part, turned out well.

Yes, one of the counselors at Tisch said that she recommended a minor in brain surgery as a fall back!
I think kswl's idea about having some non-BFA programs in the mix is a good one, just because the business is so competitive. And I've encouraged my son to have a fall back, but I swear he is like a freight train - if he has spare time he'll go to extra dance classes. Though I have to say the closer he gets to graduation (next December) I think that his single mindedness is going to increase his chances for success, because one thing you have to have is drive. Maybe it's good that he doesn't listen to dad on this one.

College counselor also recommending Skidmore as another good BA Theater program... any knowledge of that one, good or bad?
Son is also trying to wedge in a meeting with a casting director he auditioned for a few months ago. If her schedule dictates it he says he'll dump one of the school tours to meet with her. I am definitely just along for the ride on this trip!

I think that sometimes you have to look beyond the program and the school itself, to where the school is geographically. Does he really want to be at Skidmore, or any other lovely liberal arts college that is not in a big city. I would think that the best place for a theater arts major would be in a place with multiple theater opportunities. You certainly can't beat NYC for that.

butnot, I agree about Skidmore's location. Saratoga Springs is not where I would choose to go to school, but I hate not to even look at it.
Well, we can't do it on this trip, that's certain. We'll be making at least one other trip to NYC in the fall.
