Wisconsin. Yes, it's lovely, and I'm sure Madison might be nice. However, the week I spent in the Chain of Lakes area was coma-inducing for me as well.
Also, most of Florida, though I grew up vacationing there. Now that I've seen the Caribbean (in MX) why would I ever want to swim in grey murky water? How could anyone not want to return to Hawaii? |
Las Vegas is my #1 choice.
Unwhemled with Hawaii, I'd prefer not to return. China Mexico isn't my favorite place. |
Almost every big city in America. Specific places- Branson, Las Vegas, anything Disney, Elvis's Graceland, the Opry(due to the awful decline of "country" music).

mireaux,
Are you going to contribute or are you just doing more research? I also refuse to go anywhere that people call California "Cali". Ackk! |
Los Angeles...had to live there for 9 months and hated it.
India looks too crowded and dirty. Antartica...I'll look at pictures or watch films of someone elses visit but, I couldn't stand that climate. Iraq,Afganistan,Pakistan...obvious reasons. I loved Vegas...Flying in at night, it was gorgeous! And, I actually came out ahead at the blackjack table. |
Flying to Vegas at night... why haven't I thought of that! Nolefan, I'm stealing your idea for Mr Again even without your permission ;)

Refuse to - pretty strong phrasing!
There are many places, U.S. and elsewhere, that I probably wouldn't (and won't) go to simply because they don't interest me. But if I had a meeting there, for example, I probably wouldn't refuse to go. I would refuse to go to Las Vegas (been once, that's enough), Nashville (never been), Saudi Arabia (would be interesting, but as a woman, I'd be so angry the entire time) and any place where my husband and I would have, or be likely to have, problems because we have an inter-racial marriage. Luckily, there are so many places in the U.S. and in the world that I haven't been to (or that I've been to and want to return) that I will never get low enough on the list to worry about the places that I refuse to go to... |
Kansas City, Salt Lake City, Rosarito.
I can't believe someone put France up there...only one of the most gorgeous countries with great food, architecture, culture, language, etc. |
GoTravel
I just saw your question. There are several reasons I have no desire to see Las Vegas. First, I don't like all the action and commotion with casinos, shows, music, lights, etc. Just too overwhelming for me. I also don't like to gamble - I have only been to Atlantic City and cruise ships as my gambling experience and really don't care to repeat it. I was quite bored and thought it was a waste of time (even though I came away 100 bucks richer once). I don't like the climate - too hot, too dry, too desert-y. And, the tourists. I can't imagine finding anyone I'd want to talk to! In my old age (grin) I seem to go more for nature and history than manufactured excitement. So there ya have it. Las Vegas is probably the only place I have that strong an objection to. CY |
iamq,
ive been rather busy with work, albiet even though i have posted some threads here and there. lets see here,.places i would refuse to go to.. internationally:anyplace reknown for extreme cold weather (it shivers me bones). arabic/middle eastern countries never appealed to me either. some people dream of taking an african safari as well,.but to me thats just a bunch of zoo animals running amuck on a huge prairie. domestically: hawaii..yeah, i know,.youre flipping out on me and thats cool. at one time i did want to go to hawaii, until i met a rather rude guy from hawaii when i was in the military, who bluntly voiced his concerns that all that visitors do when they come to hawaii is " trash up his backyard" and bring disease and cockroaches to the once peaceful hawaiian kingdom. add to this, that many native hawaiians still resent foreign visitors even to this day.... im sorry, but i dont want to visit anywhere where my presence is not truly wanted nor desired. new jersey: per square mile, its the most crowded state. to speak of new jersey hospitality almost conjures an oxymoron. more chemical labs and plants than any other state. north carolina: since i dont care anything about tobacco, homemade furniture or nascar,.it probably wouldnt appeal much to me. missouri: theres obviously nothing to do inside of this state, being that pretty much every major city in missouri rests on its borders (kc, st louis, cape girardeau, st. joseph, joplin) |
smartcookie,
And I can't believe you put Salt Lake City on your refuse to go there list! It's a nice, clean, quite safe city in gorgeous surroundings and has lots of nice people. Plus, it's much more sophisticated than people (who have never visited) realize. Many excellent restaurants, world famous symphony, ballet, etc. |
If I was asked to go somewhere for business, I would never refuse to visit a place - that would be a CLM (career limiting move).
Places I would not voluntarily vacation: * Branson, MO (actually most of Missouri except for * Denver * anywhere in Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, North Dakota * Chicago |
I'm weird. I think even the oddest places catch my curiosity, if just for a little while.

Few things...first the places I feel the need to defend (I know everyone has their own opinions, but depends what you want):
I'm from Milwaukee, WI and love it here--the people are nice and visitors are always surprised by our nightlife and diversity of restaurants (a friend visiting from Milan was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed going out in Milwaukee), NOT a fan of Madison since it is a college town though, WI Dells are fun with family/kids because of the waterparks--just like Orlando, better with kids. Phili-I'm a Poli Sci grad student studying American government, so for government/history buffs like myself--SO much history to see here! Las Vegas--Ton of fun if you like gambling and/or nightlife. I am not a gambler but love the clubs and people watching along the strip. Tampa Bay-While I agree there isn't too much to do in the actual city, surronding areas are beautiful, Clearwater, St. Pete's, etc. The beaches have the softest white sand! Places I WOULDN'T go again: Daytona Beach -- dirty, boring, sketchy (unless you are a fan of racing) Mexico--been there twice and at several cities throughout and while both times have been fun, they haven't been as wonderful/memorable as Europe, which is where I'd rather go in a heartbeat Stonehedge in England--biggest waste of time ever Atlantic City--too much of a Vegas wanna-be, if you hate Vegas, you'll hate AC even more! New Orleans--I've been there twice before Katrina and didn't like it then, so probably wouldn't now Albuqerque--the WORSE trip EVER! Everywhere we went, the staff are so slow (and I thought the south was bad!)--became a running joke to us. It would take a good 25 min. to even get glasses of water and menus, literally everytime we went to eat out! Ferrera, Italy--beautiful, but not too much to see, would rather spend my time in other cities I've never been to Bahamas, Jamica, etc. but I have NO desire to go there, I'd rather go to Australia if I want beaches. |
Oh, Gofer, thanks a lot! I'm going to Albuquerque in January :(
|
Sorry to hear that! Just plan on going to a restaurant about one hour before you plan on eating and you'll be fine! LOL
|
TEXAS!
|
Another vote for Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. it was painful to have 2 nights there!!
Cozumel, Acapulco---Mexico in general. Norway Caracas, Venezuala There are lots of places in Europe that were fine to see once, but have no desire to return. There are more places in Europe I can't get enough of ie Paris, Provence, Tuscany, Greece, London, any place in Italy! |
I've been to Nashville, and it didn't bother me at all. Branson, on the other hand, would drive me nuts!! All I can picture in my mind are a bunch of corny 2nd rate entertainers and tons of old fogey red neck tourists.
