places you refuse to go to

everyone is always talking about where they have been and where they would like to go to.

is there anyplace you have been to that you wouldnt go back to?, or a place you have never been to, and simply refuse to travel to?

FainaAgain Nov 6th, 2007 10:25 AM

I don't like to go back to the same place simply because I don't have time and finances for that. The new places are always calling my name :))

dmlove Nov 6th, 2007 10:27 AM

I would never return to Rosarita Beach - hated it. That's it -- never been anyplace else I can think of that I wouldn't go back to if I had unlimited travel time.

herself Nov 6th, 2007 10:35 AM

Disney World. Never never never again.

We never go back to same place because like FainaAgain said, New places are always calling.

Too many places to see and experience, not enough time of money.

enzian Nov 6th, 2007 10:41 AM

Another vote "for" Rosarita Beach. We drove down for half a day to visit friends who had a timeshare there. That was half a day too long!

JohnAtLC Nov 6th, 2007 10:46 AM

Where is Rosarita Beach?

happytrailstoyou Nov 6th, 2007 10:51 AM

Refuse is a little strong, but I definitely would try to avoid any destination where I am likely to get sick from the water or food.

One exception--Egypt.

mclaurie Nov 6th, 2007 10:52 AM

Mexico.

Pugsly Nov 6th, 2007 10:56 AM

The Jersey shore. I'd rather spend the weekend in my basement.

radiofanatic Nov 6th, 2007 10:57 AM

Las Vegas. I have absolutely no desire to go there - too busy, I don't like gambling, and I'm not a night person. No thanks!

gigib Nov 6th, 2007 10:57 AM

Cabo San Lucas. I would go back if we could return to the dusty little village we went to in 1979, but wouldn't go there now.

sera Nov 6th, 2007 10:58 AM

Las Vegas. It holds no appeal to me. And I hate gambling.

Fodorite018 Nov 6th, 2007 11:05 AM

Seaside, Oregon and Las Vegas. If I am lucky I will not have to return to either one in this lifetime:D

sera Nov 6th, 2007 11:08 AM

mms: What didn't you like about seaside Oregon? I've never been but I'm curious.

suze Nov 6th, 2007 11:09 AM

Is this question limited to the United States? Or the entire world?

janiekins Nov 6th, 2007 11:10 AM

I have been to Las Vegas once - never again!

cd Nov 6th, 2007 11:22 AM

Wisconsin Dells! Seedy and cheesy.

milemarker0 Nov 6th, 2007 11:22 AM

East Berlin....well, I guess that doesn't matter anymore...

LindaLa Nov 6th, 2007 11:27 AM

I really didn't like Nassau in the Bahamas. The beaches were beautiful, but the town was definitely lacking . . .

Pugsly: I am curious what part of the Jersey Shore you hated. There are over 100 miles of beaches and some areas are really beautiful. Cape May has a beautiful beach and it's a lovely, quaint town. I spent many summers down at the NJ shore and love it. Yes, there are some towns I would stay away from - but the majority of the coastline is beautiful.

Fodorite018 Nov 6th, 2007 11:29 AM

sera--IMO, it is the tackiest place on earth. It is a carnival atmosphere, but not in a good way at all. I am so thankful that even our teens don't care for it.

paula1470 Nov 6th, 2007 11:32 AM

I actually like Rosarito Beach although I haven't been there for a few years. Its a day trip for me so that's OK. Probably wouldn't enjoy it as much if I stayed a whole weekend.

Not a huge fan of Las Vegas. I go there quite a bit for conventions and work but would never spend my own money to go there. I am going again first of Dec and am dreading it. The only good thing for me is that I get a some nice meals on my company.

I try not to go back to places because as Faina said-time and money is too short. But I would go back to Paris in a heartbeat.

dmlove Nov 6th, 2007 11:33 AM

What/where is "sera" (in case I want to avoid going there :))

Fodorite018 Nov 6th, 2007 11:37 AM

dmlove--LOL! I just saw that!

GoTravel Nov 6th, 2007 11:40 AM

Philly on a weekend two feet of snow fell.

Otherwise I'd go back in a heartbeat.

tcreath Nov 6th, 2007 11:43 AM

I hate Vegas but as it appears to be the "conference capital of the US" I'm sure I'll be back there for yet another conference some time within the next few years. Otherwise I would refuse to visit because I find it utterly tacky.

I usually try to avoid most of Florida too. Not to offend anyone, but beaches and crowds just aren't my thing, and Florida seems to have both in abundance. With that being said, I wouldn't mind visiting more historical places such as St. Augustine.

I won't be going back to Florence anytime soon, as I found it extremely crowded and claustrophobic. Its a beautiful city but when I'm back in Italy I will be elsewhere!

Otherwise I love to visit new places and will try just about anything once. Well, except maybe Disney World!

connecticutyankee Nov 6th, 2007 11:50 AM

Another vote for Las Vegas, baby! Never been. No desire at all to go.

GoTravel Nov 6th, 2007 11:53 AM

connyankee, why if you've never been there would you refuse to go? Just curious?

beachbum Nov 6th, 2007 11:55 AM

Shouldn't that be, "What/where is 'syrah' (in case I want to avoid going there)?"

Well, I never want to go back to that flop house in Frankfurt.... Or that "pension" in Amsterdam (except for the look on MIL's face when she saw her room. Priceless). But otherwise, I can't think of any place I'd refuse to go or return to. Welllll....... maybe Fresno.

Anonymous Nov 6th, 2007 12:01 PM

Las Vegas and Disney are on my short list of "Never have, never will."

I can think of several places I wouldn't bother returning to since, as pointed out above, life is short and the world is large.

Anonymous Nov 6th, 2007 12:01 PM

After posting, I noticed that the bottom of the page is taken up with an animated ad for travel to Vegas!

FainaAgain Nov 6th, 2007 12:11 PM

But where else can you visit Sahara, Bellagio and Paris all in one day?

:-p

seasweetie Nov 6th, 2007 12:38 PM

Another Las Vegas vote - but as I'm in the conference biz, I won't be able to avoid it.

And Aspen!

J_Correa Nov 6th, 2007 12:48 PM

I would probably go out of my way to avoid Nashville. I really do not like country music, so being that it is the country music capital, I figure it is best to stay away - LOL.

iamq Nov 6th, 2007 01:00 PM

I have no desire to visit Texas.

kauai_aka Nov 6th, 2007 01:10 PM

buffalo in feb.

sylvia3 Nov 6th, 2007 02:33 PM

Ronda, Spain.

sundown Nov 6th, 2007 02:46 PM

The bottom of a well.

SusieQQ Nov 6th, 2007 03:02 PM

Philadelphia...I'd rather spend a weekend in my garage..

P_M Nov 6th, 2007 04:00 PM

iamq, have you ever been to Austin? It's really quite different from the rest of TX and I think you would like it. Give it a try sometime, I'll play tour guide. :-)

Kristinesonja Nov 6th, 2007 04:14 PM

I found no reason to rush back to Italy. We visited Florence, Venice, Stessa and Rome.

I agree, way too many new places on my list to explore.
