Places to stay in NY

Our daughter has an internship in NYC this summer. We are wanting to visit over the July 4 weekend. Any suggestions on places to stay. There will just be my husband and I. She will be located near Central Park east side.

But where near east side? 63rd or 96 streets? 5th Avenue or Lexington? More information needed. It is a big world out there.

What's your budget? Where along the east side, the park goes from 59th to 110th sts (about 2.5 miles)?

The most economical way would be to use priceline and bid on the Upper East Side or possibly Upper Midtown/Central Park south if you want to be nearer to the southern end of the park.

Thank you for the imput. It will be more on the se of central park. I think the priceline idea is a good idea, as our budget is a bit tight.

Don't bid on Priceline before reading CAREFULLY either biddingfortravel.com or betterbidding.com FAQ on hotels. Know what a free re-bid is BEFORE you start. If you don't understand it, you don't understand Priceline.

The most important thing for you is a clean, safe, decent sized room. Being very close to your daughter is not so important b/c the transit system works well.

If she's "se of Central Park" it sounds like midtown east or upper midtown/central park south" would be the neighborhoods to consider on Priceline.

You might want to book something that's cancellable and see if any specials come up closer to the time. Travelzoo often features good deals. There should be some bargains for that weekend.

The Affinia 50 and the Kimberly are 2 good options in midtown east.

Call the Bentley Hotel, East 62nd near the river, and ask for its best rate. The rooms can be very small, but the price is often very reasonable.

Good luck!

The Bentley can be very inexpensive because it's very inconvenient - nowhere near any subway. If you tell us exactly where you daughter is and your budget - we may be able to give more info.

Around 54th near the river. We don't have to be real close, b/c it may be expensive. But within a resonable distance.

Just to the south of Central Park is the "Park Central" hotel. It is very convenient to transportation (subway across the street) and is in the general vicinity of where you are looking to be. You'll find it listed on all the usual sites (expedia, travelocity, etc.).

If your daugher is located on 54th near the East River, definitely call the Bentley. It's really close, and the area around 1st Avenue in the low 60's has some great restaurants.

I don't like either the Bentley or the Park Central. The least expensive decent place near there is the Best Western Hospitality which is apt. suites with kitchens on 49th st. It gets good reviews on tripadvisor.

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev..._New_York.html

The 2 places I've already mentioned(Affinia 50 & Kimberly) are also nearby.

There's also an apt. building called Sutton Place Suites that rents furnished apts. but may be too pricey.

The Beekman Towers wouldn't be too far either and is nice.

The Millenium UN Plaza has a rooftop swimming pool (awesome spot to view 4th of July fireworks) and is often affordable for a weekend stay.

If you have an American Express card, there's a fantastic rate at the Millen. UN Plaza for that weekend (on their own website) for a king bedded room with a kitchenette. You can't do better except bidding on Priceline.

54th around East River is not close to Central Park at all. Giving your location as a near Central Park is misleading.

The Rihga Royal is a suite hotel - on 54th between 6th and 7th - very close to Central Park - and it is Fabulous! Except for some very, very high end hotels, this is the most impressive hotel we have stayed in anywhere.

If you're talking about the Rihga Royal, it has a subway stop a few blocks away in several directions. Very, very convenient. Also, there's a crosstown bus on 57th st and 49/50 st. that would get you across town to the eastside where you daughter is.
