Place to stay near Letchworth?

Early next month, my husband, myself and my parents will be driving from Toronto/Niagara Falls towards Cooperstown.

I've read that Letchworth is definitely worth a stop. Are their any nearby towns that are not to be missed? Any recommendations for accomdations? The Glen Iris is booked.

We plan to stop one night in Skaneateles, so I was attempting for someplace halfway in between NF and Skaneateles.

Letchworth State Park is definitely worth a trip and the leaves will be beautiful in October. Too bad the Glen Iris Inn is booked. You didn't say when, in October, you are going. I only hope for your sake that it is not Columbus Day Weekend. Every year there is a gigantic art/antique fair in the park on Columbeus Day weekend. Traffic gets very backed up. You can avoid it if you enter the park at the south end because the fair is at the north end. For accomodations, I'd look for a B&B in the Geneseo area. Do a Google on Livingston County Bed & Breakfast. FWIW, it's probably only about a 2.5 hour drive from Letchworth to Skaneatles, so if you got an early enopugh start, you could see the park and then go directly to Skaneatles the same day.

There is a Country Inn and Suites at the north end of the park...I believe it is in morristown (or Ville)? It is very well kept up and is a great place to stay.
We travelled to Letchworth last year; we took the southern route out of Buffalo (not the Thruway through Batavia). The route is beautiful, rolling green farm country etc. I don't have the route numbers but you pass through the town of Warsaw prior to entering the park on the southern side.
Enjoy it, Letchworth is very pretty. They light the falls area up at night.

The name of the town at the north end of the park is Mt. Morris, which bills itself as "The best little town by a dam site."

The route that giro is referring to is RT 20A it begins off of RT5 south of Buffalo. To get there take the I190 south from Niagara Falls toward Buffalo.. this takes you along Lake Erie... exit to RT 5 Skyway through the old Steel Plants to RT 20A... this will take you through a mix of towns, villages and farmland including historic East Aurora, home of the Roycroft Arts and Crafts movement... be sure to stop at Viddlers 5 and dime and the Roycroft inn. It is also the home of Fisher Price Toys.

Continue along 20A to Letchworth and the town of Geneseo... home to the NY state college at Geneseo, you may also find lodging at the Big Tree Inn, recently remodeled.... but beware... as an earlier poster stated... the area is jammed for Family weekend at the college on Oct 21 - 23 as well as Columbus weekend... good luck and have fun!!!
