Photos from Alcatraz evening tour

We took the evening tour last week; it was great. The place is very eerie as the light grows dims and there were not many people on the tours [as opposed to day tours.]

We got to see the hospital ward, which is only open to night tours.

Hope you like the pictures.

Thanks for posting - your photos are excellent. What a treat to have that wonderful sunset on the ride back to SF. If I ever get back to San Francisco I will want to take the tour of Alcatraz. I lived in SF for eight months in 1963 the year it closed.

Great pictures, but why didn't you take pictures of yourself in the cells?

Debi, great photos. But they gave me the creeps too. I'm not sure I want to visit the rock in Sept.
But I sure am glad I saw your photos. It gives me a real good idea of how it all looks.

I'm anxious to see your other photos.

Hi DebitNM,

Just wondering - what time was the evening tour and what time were you back in SF? I'm asking particularly because we're traveling with our 1-year-old son and I'm not sure if it will be way past his bedtime, or whether we might be able to squeeze it in...

Also, do you think the evening tour is okay to bring a toddler?

Thanks!

Jenn

I was in SF a couple of years ago and loved it!!!! The tour of Alcatraz was great. In fact my daughter is getting married in Dec and she and her hubby are going there for their honeymoon. I will suggest the night tour to them.

Deb, we are trying to decide between a night tour and morning tour for next week. How cool is the night tour? Also, my 10 yr old gets easily frightened. But I still think it might be fun overall. (I recently had both boys watch the Birdman movie to get an idea of Alcatraz.) So are sweatshirts warm enough for the night ride over or do you think we need slightly heavier coats?? Thanks.
