Phoenix to Las Vegas roads closed?

Heard on the news that some roads between Phoenix and Las Vegas are closed and also that Hoover Dam had been closed since the terrorist, but had just reopened. Any truth to this? We'll be traveling Phoenix to GC to Las Vegas next week and would help to have alternate routes in mind.

There are a number of ways to get from Vegas to Phoenix. If one way is closed there are a number of reroutes.

Actually there is a grand total of one alternative route (without driving an extra half day). Bullhead City/Hwy 95 will get you to LV relatively efficiently without crossing the dam.

just drove the most direct and fastest way to/from Phx-Las Vegas yesterday. Road is fully opened and presents no problem. State Route 93 is better than ever. Section between Wickenberg and Wickieup has a lot of road widening going on but it did not slow traffic down at all. Also, there is a check point before you get to Hoover dam. On the Az side they stop you and send you on your way; on the Nevada side they just slow you down and wave you through (they must have taken lessons from our airport security people). The Dam was open to passenger cars only but I heard that all vehicles were now being let through.
Now that I've said all this I just looked at the original post. If you are going Phx to GC you'll be taking I-17 which is open and presumably Route 180 to 64 to the Canyon. I havent heard about any closings on those roads. From the Canyon, take Route 64 to I-40 to Kingman and then 93 to Las Vegas.

Sharon: just a little addendum; if you have time and the inclination, I would suggest you get off I-17 north of Phx. at ROute 179 and take it to Sedona; then take Rte 89 north through Oak Creek Canyon. At the top of the canyon you hook back up with I-17 into Flagstaff from where you can pick up Rte 180.
Have a good trip
