You are backtracking from Walnut Canyon to Sedona.

Lots of driving, but the scenery along the way is part of the attraction

as the poster says, from montezuma you need to go to flagstaff to reach walnut canyon and then backtrack to sedona. its doable but you are driving more than necessary. suggest you go directly to sedona and when you finally leave sedona you can consider going to walnut canyon. Take 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff through oak creek canyon.
Also, unless there is something or someone you are meeting it is a COMPLETE waste of time to go to mesa and apache junction.

Instead of going east and then backtracking you might consider the following
Day 1 - as you outlined
Day 2 - as you outlined
Day 3 - Gr. CAnyon
Day 4 - Grand Canyon, Lake Powell
Day 5 - Bryce NP
Day 6 - Zion NP
Day 7 - Las Vegas
No backtracking and less driving. Driving distances:
Phx to Sedona - 110 miles
Sedona to Gr. Can. - 107 miles
Gr.CAn to Page - 145 miles
Page to Bryce - 155 miles
Bryce to Zion - 85 miles
Zion to LV - -165 miles
