You are backtracking from Walnut Canyon to Sedona.

Lots of driving, but the scenery along the way is part of the attraction
|
as the poster says, from montezuma you need to go to flagstaff to reach walnut canyon and then backtrack to sedona. its doable but you are driving more than necessary. suggest you go directly to sedona and when you finally leave sedona you can consider going to walnut canyon. Take 89A from Sedona to Flagstaff through oak creek canyon.
Also, unless there is something or someone you are meeting it is a COMPLETE waste of time to go to mesa and apache junction.

that sounds like fun......can i go?

davaid: Thought Apache Junction, Lost Dutchman's Mine and the Supers. Mtns. sounded like an interesting day... No? Could you give more detail why not?

holly: I think I know where you can get an extra ticket.
