Phoenix hotel: Camelback Inn? JW Marriott Desert Ridge or Westin Kierland?
Planning to be in Phoenix (Scottsdale) this October for a conference as well as some golfing.
I cannot decide on the three hotels: The Westin Kierland Resport & Spa, the JW Marriott Camelback Inn, or the JW Marriott Desert Ridge? All 3 have golf courses on the property, similar prices, but the Camelback seems to have nicer lodging: they offer casitas instead of regular hotel rooms.
Dpes anyone have some ideas which one I should pick? Thanks

Have you read the reviews at www.tripadvisor.com? I don't know that there will be alot of people on this board that have firsthand knowlege of all three hotels.

All are great hotels, but very different. The Westin is a more traditional hotel and very busy with conferences. The Camelback Inn is very spread out and casitas are beautiful and very private. That resort does a lot of conferences also, but since there isn't a central lobby/elevator bank, you don't feel the business aspect as much. I'd opt for Camelback.

I have been to Westin many times and recommend it highly, if you can get a decent rate. Ask for a room overlooking the golf course on the conceierge level. It is close to a great shopping area - the commons, great restaurants - Mastro's Ocean Club has excellent food and great martinis. Also, P.F. Changs, Cheesecake, shopping like Pottery Barn,Crate & Barrel, Chicos, Anthropologie. I also loved J.W. Marriott - they recently got all new beds and they are comparable to the Westin's Heavenly Bed - Camelback is more secluded and relaxed, so it depends on what you are looking for. If you want ZEN and quiet, try the Sanctuary on Camelback - it is not for a conference trip, but for a romantic weekend or girls getaway. Good luck!

We just stayed at the Kierland a couple of weeks ago and loved it. My husband golfed and said the course was very nice. Our room overlooked the golf course - it's worth it to ask for that view. The Commons shopping across the street is so convenient and has some great restaurants.

johnmango..Are you positive Camelback Inn's golf is "on property"? I have friends who went not too long ago and were very frustrated because the golf was a 15 minute shuttle ride away:not walking distance as they had thought.Although the liked the hotel, they didnt like the golf part.

Just spent 2 nights at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge - small room with 2 beds but the hotel is great. We had a lazy River view and joined the Cloud Club for $150 a night ... making the nightly rate $600. The Camelback Marriott just dropped in rating from Category 7 down to 6...but I prefer to be stay right in the hotel than casitas anyway. Roy's is good restaurant choice in Desert Ridge - shopping close by. Also check out Marriott Canyon Villas across the road which gives full access to Desert Ridge JW too ... it's a timeshare with all kinds of space but you have to make your own beds.
