Hi! I am looking for a recommendation for a good, modest priced BYOB in Philadelphia. My husband and I will be going for our 5th wedding anniversary in November. We like all types of food, but our least favorite is probably traditional American (prefer ethnic choices).

We don't have our hotel yet because I am trying (unsuccessfully so far) to get one on Priceline, so I don't know where we will be staying. We will have a car though.

Hi yk, I've been wanting to go to Django for a long time and just haven't made it there. Is it moderately priced? Also, I had a nice meal at a place about 1/2 block off South Street on 4th. I think the name began with an "A". Any ideas? Thanks.

Those are all good suggestions. I'd also include La Boheme on 11th Street. I think it's between Locust and Spruce.

I'd say D'jango is moderately priced. Appertizers are around $10, Entress around $20. I went there a few months ago, for the 2 of us we had:
2 sodas
1 appertizer
2 entrees
1 cheese plate for dessert (the best!)
2 coffees
Including tips I think it ended up about $50 per person. Not cheap but really great food and great atmosphere!

I went on Memorial Day weekend, so I called exactly 1 month ahead of time (it goes by the date, not by 30 days; ie if you want to go there on Nov 7, you need to call on Oct 7). I called at 10am (when the phone lines open) and didn't get through until 10:30am, and was able to get one of the last 2 reservations. If you can go on a week night, I'm sure it's much easier to get a reservation, or maybe even walk-in!

Yes, BYOB means Bring Your Own Bottle in this thread. Because of PA liquor laws, BYOBs are fairly common in Philadelphia.

jor, All the places discussed are BYOB's which means the same thing here in Philadelphia as elsewhere. Why the confusion?

Maybe jor thought it referred to the bottle, not the restaurant?

Just thought of another one--Pif (French) near the Italian market.

And Tartine at 4th and Bainbridge does have a wine list, but they will also let you bring your own and I don't think they charge a corkage fee.

In the Art Museum area, I like Figs (on 25th; Pan-Mediterranean).

I was looking for a particular restaurant in the suburbs of Philadelphia on the internet this morning and I stumbled across a website:www.marksquires.com that has a great list of Philly BYOB's with descriptions, most personally tried by the author.
