Going to Norfolk to see son in Navy this weekend (last minute decision). Any good restaurants? Hotel is all set.
Thanks

We really liked the Wild Monkey in Ghent--very casual, eclectic menu. There's also a good coffee shop just down the street, Fair Grounds I think, much better than the Starbuck's right across from it!

If time allows, how about a drive to Williamsburg. I was directed to the Blue Talon recently and it was very good but needs reservations.

A few suggestions:

THE BLUE HIPPO, Contemporary American. 147 Granby St., Norfolk, 757-533-9664

TODD JURICH’S BISTRO. American. 150 W. Main St., Norfolk, 757-622-3210

CORA, Southern cuisine. 723 W. 21st St., Norfolk, 757-625-6100

ALICE MAE’S SOUTHERN CUISINE, soul food & homestyle cooking. 515 Washington St., Olde Towne Portsmouth, 399-7091. OR: 112 Bank St., Norfolk, 622-5800 (I've only been to the Portsmouth location)

Have a great time seeing your son this weekend!

When in Norfolk, you can't miss going here:

Then, tour Waterside afterwards.

I'm sure he'll enjoy the visit enough that the restaurant won't matter.

Having "enjoyed" Norfolk courtesy USN myself ... you're not surprising him with the visit, are you? That could make for disasterous weekend if he's got other plans, or duty. I remember my own parents visiting, which was nice, but awkward when I didn't expect them.

Enjoy your weekend.
