Thanks elberko and sf7307! Glad you enjoy reading about my mode of transport. I think the Governor Chris Christie pencil is hilarious too...makes me wonder what other products one can get with his name on it!

Besides being in Trenton for Court business I've also seen plays at the Passage Theatre. I's a great professional theater and there is a parking log right across the street, so no fears about walking at night in Trenton.

Susieqq--I'm pleased to hear that good theater is on offer in Trenton.
I'm sort of ashamed to say that although I've passed through NJ scores of times (on Amtrak, NJ Turnpike), this jaunt to Trenton is the first time I've actually explored one of the Garden State's cities or towns! I suspect I have some fun future exploring in store!

I've been to Trenton, and it's an extremely scruffy city bordering on the dangerous. I'd actually avoid walking there except in the immediate area of the capitol building and nearby Old Barracks. The capitol itself is worth seeing, and the Old Barracks weren't bad. There's also a small museum complex of sorts right next to the capitol, which I found didn't take up a lot of time. The Trenton Battle Monument is north of here but reportedly in an especially bad area, so I skipped it.
Not much in the way of interesting places to eat, either -- they're noted for tomato pies, which are a species of pizza, but there weren't any parlors in the small area I explored. This area of NJ is also known for a lunch meat concoction called pork roll, kind of a cross between ham and bologna. I had a sandwich at a deli lunch spot right by the capitol. Worth trying once, I guess.
Getting around: I took Amtrak there and back, then a city bus from the station to the capitol area and back. Scruffy, but serviceable.

Daniel, just realized there was a trip report from you buried in this thread. Sorry I didn't post my suggestions sooner, but sounds like you did fine without my post. Agreed, the capitol building is very good and the Old Barracks is worth a stop -- and you didn't miss much skipping the little museums adjoining the capitol. Glad you found a good place to eat, too, which I didn't.

Bachslunch--That's ok. Someone who may have opened my post curious about Trenton might benefit from your input. My thought on Trenton is that given its pivotal role in US history and handsome architecture (in the area from train station to State House at least), it deserves more interest than it gets. I'm rooting for Trenton!
