Pearl and Pinapples Same Day?

We have a couple days in Honolulu and want to visit Pearl Harbor and Dole Plantation on the same day. Is this possible? How far is Dole from Honolulu?

My sister did it with her kids last summer of course they where heading towards an evening stay at Hilton Turtle bay. Where will you be headed? They also squeezed in punch bowl cemetary. They left Hilton Hawaiian Village at 8 am in the morning to get to Pearl early. I would skip punch bowl and find a way to squeeze in Iolani Palace many people over look this place but it is great source for Hawaiian and American History.

I think it will always be doable question is how much do you want to run around. Everyone has different ideas on this. If you do go the Dole Plantation remember in a nearby field you can find Alii birthing grounds tall trees forming a circle sticking up in the middle of a pineapple field, pretty interesting. Oh what the hey you are so near the North Shore and yes you can do this in one day. For this last suggestion you will have to skip Iolnai Palace. Head just a few mile on and visit the Heau on the North. IT HAS A BREATHING TAKING VIEW of the pacific.

Definitely possible, but since you have to wait in line for the Pearl Harbor tours, it's a little harder to plan around.

We are staying at the Kahala Mandarin and will have a rental car, so we'll be able to choose our own schedule. Thanks so much for the comments.

Yes, it is definitely possible. We were able to visit Pearl Harbor, take a glider ride out of Dillingham airfield on the north shore, and make it to Kua Aina in Haleiwa by noon for lunch. We didn't stop at the plantation but did drive by it. It shouldn't take more than half an hour to drive from Pearl Harbor to Dole plantation or vice versa. Tickets for the boat ride out to the memorial are given out starting at 7:30am and if you arrive just a little before that, you can get on the first boat. Remember, no bags of any kind are allowed at the memorial.

Hey, Patty, how much was the glider ride? Would you recommend the experience?

FYI on glider rides at Dillingham friend of mine who is a North Shore resident asked me not to do this last summer as she says there are frequent fatal accidents reported on local news. Still could be a wonderful experience just think it is good that you know the risk.

Maggi,

We loved the glider ride! It's very reasonable at $35 per person for a 20 minute ride. They said there are about 30 days a year when they're not able to fly due to winds so you need to call and check the weather conditions with them the morning of your ride. The only thing I would do differently is choose single rather than double rides. On a double ride, both passengers are in the back and it is a tight squeeze (and we are not overweight).
