Parking Garage near Mayflower Hotel
We are spending three nights at the Mayflower Hotel right after Christmas. Some of us are driving to DC and will need to park cars overnight but have access to them for days at Mt. Vernon (possibly) and Arlington National Cemeter (definitely). I hear that the valet parking at the Mayflower is very slow.
Anyone know of a parking garage/open lot that would be within two blocks of the Mayflower which would allow us to get our own cars? We will try to us public transportation as much as possible but my 75 year old mother isn't great on her feet for too long so the car will be used.
Thanks!

Not only is it slow, they put a big door ding in the side of my brand new car! Couldn't prove it, of course. Tango sierra for me!
That being said, I think the Mayflower was actually putting cars into a public garage near by. There are quite a lot of them on parallel streets, though I can't be specific.

There are lots of parking garages nearby. Just drop everyone and the bags off at the hotel, then park the car.
Valet may not be so slow that week. Or, you could always phone ahead instead of waiting until you're all downstairs and ready to leave. Everyone may have to wait just as long for you to go after the car and return for them.

Thanks, all, for your good suggestions. DJKbooks, I hadn't thought that it might be easier that week. Perhaps we'll try it once and see how it goes. Otherwise, we'll just use a local garage.
Thanks all!

One caution about using a garage other than that offered by the hotel is that you may have limited nighttime access. Not all downtown garages are self-park, so they close when attendants are not on duty. Also, at other garages you may pay the maximum rate twice in one day if you take it out and return, whereas with the hotel's valet parking you probably have in-and-out privileges for one daily fee.
Check the terms before you decide.
