In the future, I'll only book the conference rate if it can be cancelled. I called Paris to inquire about the internet rates and was told that they were only applicable on the internet and even though you could request room preferences it wasn't guaranteed. A colleague was able to snag the room requested and it was a better room at a much lower price by booking on the internet. Another collegue used comps to lower the room rate and she too was gouged because her rates were higher than the internet rates. What ever happened to taking care of your customers? Especially in this economy. Hey it's Vegas where everything is a gamble!!

"""The Unofficial Guide Las Vegas" regarding Las Vegas hotels and convention bookings/rates, most of which is contrary to all stated above.""
Being that I was in hotel management for over a decade and have attended many Las Vegas conventions for hotel management, I call BS on the book 'knowledge'.

I'd love to know how many times the OP has been to Vegas prior ? Paris also tends to be one of my favorite props. You likely got a not so good room as that is what they probably give to people attending a conference. I'd save the good rooms for my return customers.

I've done an annual Vegas trade show for 20+ yrs. My compnay pays the Convention rate(understandable since we have convention space), but many others there book the the cheapie tourist rates. Generally, they pay only $30-50 less. When we have our dinners, everybody has a story. Sometimes a cheapie rate guy comes late and gets a suite while the same night a confirmed guy gets bumped off strip. Overall Vegas does a great job with conventions, with Paris among the best.
No inroom Coffee maker- Once I had an 7 am flight w/a full day ahead, checked out just to find a long line for the coffee shop! Arghhh!!! I didnt want to gamble, but I figured sitting at a Blackjack table was the only way I could get a pot of coffee and still make my flight. What I thought would be a $20 pot of coffee(I only had 20 in cash and I was hoping it would last until the coffee arrived) turned into a $2000 stack after I kept pushin' my wins. I walked away 1200 up when my ride showed up. Go figure

We liked the Paris hotel. In Vegas, hotel rooms can be had for free up to whatever price you are willing to pay. It depends on if you sign up at a casino and get the card etc or if you gamble in a casino. Specials are sent out during the year. We usually stay for free or $50 a night.
We liked the food at the Paris also.
Just don't touch the mini-bar unless you are buying. They have electronic sensors that tell if anything is moved or picked up. I always look to see if there are any empty spots in the mini-bar when I arrive - you could be charged for something you didn't take.

The stay in Vegas was fine and the conference was wonderful. I have stayed at several other props in town and had a much more positive experience with the condition of the rooms and the attitude of the hotel staff. My rants were to help others who may be planning to stay at this property to remember to ask questions, request a renovated room, and to research rates. After all, isn't that what this website is all about????
