PALM SPRINGS TRAM - QUESTION

We will be stopping overnite in Palm Springs on our way to Santa Barbara in August and thinking about taking the aerial tram. Do you know if the cars are air conditioned?

There is some sort of climate control in the cars but you're not really in the cars all that long, maybe less than 7 minutes each way, if even that long.

No AC, but no problem either. Windows hear ceiling are open in summer.

So even in August, in Palm Springs, the tram is bearable for the few minutes without a/c?

Yes it is bearable- quite comfortable if I remember correctly! It is much cooler once you get to the top.

Thanks. Think we'll take the tram up at sunset and have dinner at the top.

OTC you might want to take the tram later in the day but your money would be better spent on any one of the many great PS restaurants. You won't get your money's worth at the restaurant at the top of the tram. We were not impressed with the facility or the food.

We hd great meals at Riccios, Al Dente, Chops, The Falls, Le St Germain (Indian Wells)& Spencers

It is very pretty at the top of the mountain. If you like to hike, there are some nice trails. The views are beautiful! Plus, the air smells so fresh. It is so worth the trip!

I echo Suzie's comments. You would be very disappointed with the price and quality of the food at the top. If you don't want to dine at many of the great restaurants on the Valley floor, you might consider stopping at the Bristol Farms in Palm Desert or Trader Joe's in Palm Desert or Cathedral City and picking up a great picnic. There are tables at the base of the trail down from the Mtn Station you can use.

Also---I see now that you are considering August. You should be ok as far as the annual maintenance shutdown:

2008 Annual Maintenance - The Tramway will be closed for Annual Maintenance September 8, 2008 - October 3, 2008.

It is a great ride and I doubt you'll be disappointed (unless you eat up there!)

Thanks for your input and we'll take your advice not to eat at the top.
