Page AZ - Antelope Canyon and/or float trip?

From what I'm reading on this forum, the best time to visit the Antelope Canyon is the 11:30 or around that time tour.
At the same time, it seems that the float trip (the 1/2 day one) leaves Page at 1:30 pm.
Can we do both in one day? Any advice on how to do this would be appreciated. And if we have to pick one over the other one, which one would you choose? Thanks

Not sure yet, sssteve. The itinerary is not set in stone; all I know is that it will be in Sept. Does it matter? Thanks

If you are going to do serious photography you will need to spend several hours at the minimum in Antelope Canyon. Am assuming you are talking about the upper canyon, you can walk right into it as opposed to the lower canyon where you walk down ladders. The best light in spring is 11-2pm. Can't help you on late fall. If you are only going to take "snapshots" be sure to turn your flash off as it will ruin the light hitting the rock and other photographers will get upset with you. The light levels are very low so you will need high speed film/digital ISO if you don't have a tripod. A small flashlight is good to have to find your way through the dim corridor.
Haven't done the float trip so can't help you on that one either.

xyz...

actually it does matter. Through sept 15, there are 2 raft floats per day - one at 730 AM and one at 130 PM. After Sept 15, there's only one - at 11 AM.

So, it might matter when you go.

Photodog, thanks for the photography tips. Actually, I am hoping to get to take a photo class in preparation for this trip. Too many wonderful places, it would be a shame not to get wonderful pics!!
Sssteve, thanks for the great info on the float trip schedule. I did not know it, so we need to evalaute our options now. As I said earlier, this trip will be in 2005, so plenty of time for planning.

Agree with everything Photodog has written. The light plays on the canyon walls is fantastic and you need to catch it when the sun is shafting into the canyon. At other times, it's just a dark canyon, nothing special.

Also the flashlight is a great suggestion. The canyon is not paved, LOL, so you are liable to trip or slip on a protruding rock. Hold hands with old ones and young uns.

xyz..

Here's the URL for the site with the info on the float trips. It's part of the John Wesley Powell museum site.

Of course, the schedule could change by 2005...
