Oxford: B&Bs?

If you're referring to Oxford MD on he Eastern Shore, I spent July 4th weekend there and loved it. Be prepared to step into a time warp of sorts. It's remarkably quaint, non-touristy and very laid back. There is a very limited number of B&B's, as the town is very small. We drove over to St. Michael's and to Tilgheman Island - were very happy that we had opted for Oxford. It is VERY romantic, btw ;-)

We saw the exteriors of Pope's Inn, 1876 House and the Robert Morris Inn. All looked okay but not spectacular - probably very nice on the inside. Did not drive out to look at Combsberry (it's about two miles out of town), but did speak with the owner. It sounds gorgeous but too much $$ for us (about $250). Combsberry's owner referred us to a non-traditional alternative lodging that we did use - it was affordable ($100 night) and did not include breakfast but was spectacular and truly unique (with a minor shortcoming, depending on one's perspective). If you're headed to Oxford, Mississippi, then the Oliver Britt House would be a nice B&B for you to try - call them at 601-234-8043. Remember that if you happen to be in town during the weekend of a University of Miss. home football game, then hotel rooms may be hard to come by. Oxford has a web site at www.ci.oxford.ms.us Also the University's web site is www.olemiss.edu Both sites can give you more info about activities, places to eat, etc.

If you are headed to Oxford,Maryland you should know that it is a very small town with a lovely historic area.We
stayed in St.Michael's (very close to Oxford by private ferry)at the Inn at Perry Cabin.Not inexpensive but luxurious .208 Talbot& Suddenly Last Summer are good bets for dinner.
