Overnight street parking in Boston?
Hi,
I will be in Boston on Saturday, staying at the Boston Park Plaza. I called the hotel and they told me that parking would be $32/day. My question is: Is there overnight street parking in that section of Boston?
Thanks for your help.

Parking at Boston Common is $31 for 24 hours, no savings. From experience I would say just pay the $32 and save yourself the agrevation. If you can pay for the Park Plaza, hopefully the $32 won't break you. See also -

Well, that's probably the fee for hotel VALET parking. Often you can park in the VERY same garage for much less if you park your car yourself, especially this time of year. Or, drop off your luggage and head toward the financial district (which is otherwise comatose weekends), where there are any number of garages where you can park for $7/24 hours or $20/weekend (just look for the signs). You won't need the car during your visit, and you can just taxi back from and back to the garage. Street parking is a possibility, but you have to pay attention to the signs. I wouldn't leave my personal vehicle on the street for an entire weekend in Boston, though.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I would like to try what Donna suggested and park my car in the financial district. Is the area just called the "financial district" or is it also referred to as something else (just want to make sure I will be in the right place)?
By the way, I was able to afford the Park Plaza Hotel through Priceline at $70/night.
Thanks again.

While you might try to find a street space, my thoughts are that chances are close to zero you will find one. You could always park at hotel if you are unsuccessful. Most street parking in Boston is limited by 2 things. First, most areas limit most spaces to "residents" with sticker for that particular small area. While there may be a few spots for non-residents, they are very few and even residents have to hunt for a legal space.
Second, unlike some less congested areas, meters do not take the weekend off in many areas, especially those frequented by tourists. As for the financial district, that used to be a little better, but meters have added weekend hours in some places and other spaces have been gobbled up by Big Dig.
Lots and hotels could not get away with charging that much if it were simple to find a cheaper space. That said, do a search here as others have been faced with same problem and posters here have come up with creative, but in my opinion aggravating, solutions (Like park miles away, take MBTA.) Beware of parking in MBTA lots - many have specific prohibitions about parking overnight and I suspect most would be suspicious of a car left for days at a time as these are commuter lots primarily.
