Outer Banks Nightlife

We will be staying in the Outer Banks in July, and was wondering what to expect with regard to nightlife. Are there many bars and nightclubs. We are in our late 20's/early 30's and just don't know what to expect! Thanks!

Sorry, Outer Banks nightlife is an oxymoron.

There is none to speak of- consider the ABC store or the Brew Thru and an evening on the beach! The outer banks is very family oriented- places to eat, antique shops, and souvenir stores are pretty much all that's there.

Kirby, honey - there is NOTHING to do at night there - Rebecca is right - pick up a couple of six packs from the lovely ABC liquor store (and pray they have your brand) and sit on the beach or in your motel/rental house.

Hi Kirby,

I have been traveling to the Outer Banks for almost 20 years. I have to disagree with all the previous posters. There are loads of great bars and restaurants to party at. Lots of live music and great dance places.....Goomba's, Kelly's, Tortugua's Lie for great food and drinks. Wed. nights are Sushi Night at the Lie......excellante!!! Fantastic Golden margaritas there as well. There's Mama Qwan's.....very cool for late night cocktails, music and fun. Loads of other spots as well and you're in the perfect age group for all of this. Speed limits and DWI's are extremely monitored down there. They've had their share of fatalities and are really cracking down on unsafe driving....just an FYI. Have a great time, it's beautiful and ton's of fun.....you'll find plenty to do...ask the locals and bartender/waiters where they like to go after hours.
Cheers

Ditto the above- Just a hint tho- Nags Head has the nitelife, rest of Outer Banks pretty quiet. No problem with cheap cabs to avoid DUI's either!

Kirby,

There is a nightlife in the outer banks, mainly in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.

For a great casual meal, drinks and/or a quick volleyball game, try Tortuga's lie on the beach road. For live music, hit The Pit in Kill Devil Hills on the bypass, the often get national bands, it's very tiny. They also have pool and foosball tables upstairs. Thursday night used to be their coffee house/open mic night. And as already mentioned, Quagmires is a pretty hoping place as is Goombays.

As others have said, be very careful with drinking and driving; the crime rate is so low, that's about all the crime the cops have to fight.
