I'll never forget the look of awe my kids had on there faces when we arrived at our hotel (3am NY time). We had a terrific view of Coit Towers from our room and in the morning we had a fabulous brunch at the Ritz and afterwards we went outside to experience a breathtaking view of the bay! San Francisco will always be special because we had such a special time together as a family.

Though I first visited San Francisco when I was 8 or so, my longest-lasting memories stem from the trips my high school's chapter of the California Honor Society made there every year (I attended a small high school in the Sierra foothills). I remember desperately attempting to appear cool and sophisticated while my friends would be gawking at tall buildings, exclaiming, "Oooooh! A siren! Where is it???" etc.
I always loved riding the cable cars, visiting Chinatown, and seeing the Bay.

Viewing the Golden Gate bridge about 10 a.m., or trying to, because it was shrouded in fog. We were drinking hot chocolate, and we felt as though we were going to freeze to death. July 2nd, 2003.
I think the view of the city lights from Alcatraz on a clear night was one of my favorite memories.
