Our favorite San Francisco restaurants

Our current favorites:

- Nico in Presidio Heights. French. Michelin 1 star, but very casual
- Kokkari in the Jackson Square area downtown. Greek
- Thanh Long. Vietnamese in the Outer Sunset. We first dined there about 10 years ago on a Fodors GTG. It is usually the first place we visit after a long trip to Europe
- Foreign Cinema in the Mission. Calif cuisine.
- Aster in the Mission. New/creative Calif. Very casual Michelin 1 star
- Cala in the Civic Center area. Mexican - but nowhere close to Tex Mex. Michelin 1 star
- Delfina in the Mission. Italian - but not the North Beach red sauce type.
- The Progress. South Fillmore area. Northern Calif cuisine. Michelin 1 star
- Padrecito in the Cole Valley. Mexican. Goat taco is excellent

We've dined at all of these in the past 4 months.

Ate at Thanh Long last month for about the 30th time and were disappointed by the crabs that had a strong ammonia odor. Garlic noodles were still fab.
Ate at Delfina last year and thought it was ok. Horrible to park. daughter however loves their pizza.
Like Kokkari
Foreign Cinema ok. Great mixed drinks and pleasant outdoors in the summer.
Still like Yang Sing but it has gotten so expensive
Slanted Door and Boulevard still good.
Will need to try Aster and Nico and Progress

No list right now but just wanted to point out that Delfina and Delfina Pizza, although next door to each other, do no share a kitchen or menu. You can't get the pizza while dining in the restaurant and vice versa. I also think the restaurant is good, not great, but the pizza is my favorite.

Thanks for your current list, Stu.

Re: Slanted Door, I know everyone raves about it, but I was not impressed at lunch there. It was so LOUD inside, we couldn't even talk.

The food was very good, but the servings were small and the price very high. Service was sketchy, as the place was crammed full. Not an experience I'd recommend or recreate.

My wife often met former-work friends for lunch at Slanted Door - and she always griped about the noise too. They no longer meet at Slanted Door. Now they go to M.Y. China in Westfield Center or someplace in Belden Alley.

<Better than Haystack???? Can't be!!! In December, we had an Iceberg lettuce salad with Blue Cheese and a pizza at Haystack after a Historical Society meeting at St Philips Church.>

Used to be our favorite - I still yearn for their chicken with mushrooms (I don't think they have it anymore, at least under that name)!!

We have recently been eating at Out the Door on Bush street as parking is easier and ambience quieter.
