Orleans Hotel

Hi. Has anyone stayed at this hotel? I saw it on AAA and it was rated 3 diamonds, but my firend told me it was really run down and not a place for our family of 3, which includes our 8 yo.

We are looking for a good, clean hotel with great pools, close to the strip and nice food choices.

Thanks.

I assume you are talking about Las Vegas....

The Orleans is a fine hotel. It is as kid friendly as most in the area. I disagree that it is rundown and I was there 1 year ago. I am not sure about their pool but you might check out their website for that.

The Orleans has been discussed at some length on these forums. You might try a search for additional opinions.

I was just @ the Orleans in Vegas and its a fine hotel--I assume that's what you mean; however, where you got the idea it was rundown is simply wrong.

We go there all the time to watch movies, go bowling, and to eat. The casino and amenities are very nice, but I can't comment on the rooms or the pool.

There are many restaurant choices there and I have never had a bad meal at the Orleans. When my parents visit, it's the only buffet we go to... There's also an excellent restaurants for any cuisine - American, Mexican, Italian, or Japanese. I think there's also an oyster bar.

As for distance from the strip, it's quite a walk if you're planning on hoofing it, but a short ride on the free shuttle. I wouldn't recommend walking to the strip, merely because you would go through a more industrial part of town which can get a little, um... dubious, at night. (The area around the Orleans itself is nice).

Good luck with your decision!

Hi. Thanks everyone for their input. My friend, who said it was rundown, said the Hilton would be amuch better location and they have a better pool. The Hilton is closer to the strip.

But, I want to away from the noise and crowds.

I just came back from the Orleans on Tuesday. I think you will be fine there. As was mentioned previously, there are theaters and bowling, plus lots of good eats.

If you are interested, the slots at Orleans are "good"... so say the locals who play there. I happened to hit $250... so I was pleased.

I also like the fact that Orleans is not on the crowded strip. We had a car and drove back and forth to places, but there is supposed to be a(free?) shuttle to the strip and back, which I did not need to use.

fkwok-
Which Hilton are you talking about- Flimingo Hilton or Las Vegas Hilton?

I'm going to assume you're talking about the Las Vegas Hilton since that's also off-strip. Sure, it would be easier to walk to the strip from there, but you would end up by the Riveria and Circus Circus- not ideal, IMHO. I believe the Orleans free shuttle drops you off at the Barbary Coast, right in the middle of the strip.

On the flip side, I the Las Vegas Hilton is on the monorail route and would give you a direct route to the strip. The monorail isn't free, but it will get you to the middle of the strip.

I can't compare the rooms or pools at the hotels, but the Orleans definitely has more "kid friendly" amenities, unless your 8 year old is really into Star Trek! Really, either hotel would probably be fine.

I hope this helps!

I heard yesterday that the monorail isn't running due to mechanical problems.

sunshine-
Hmmmm.... I couldn't find any news that is wasn't running, but it wouldn't surprise me. It could be down today and up tomorrow- after all, it is Vegas!

The monorail is open. It was only down for part of one day this past week.

The Orleans is a well cared for property with plenty to do. The rooms are larger than average and will be clean. Transportation to/from the strip is easy and will only take minutes by shuttle, bus, or taxi.
